The filters stop absorbing water and become hard after about six weeks and need to be replaced.

This filter is made so much better than the Best Air filters that are the only option that I've seen in our local stores. I've taken many of the Best Air filters out of the box and they are split down the side. I will be ordering the Holmes filters from now on

I can't find any difference (or improvement) between this filter and all of the other aftermarket humidifier filters out there. It fits my Holmes 3000 well enough (as do the majority of the others). Don't know about the extended life part though, as I've been using it for the past eleven days, and it's already showing a build-up of mineral deposits, so I don't see it lasting any longer than the others (despite the manufacturer's claims). Unfortunately, also like the other aftermarket filters, it is NOT as thick as the original filters that were an inch thick. This one is about .70" so like all of its current competitors that are also too thin to wick moisture efficiently into your air, I have to flip it over every day, and even then it's performance is only mediocre at best. Won't waste my time (or money) buying it again.

I had this type filter 2-3 years; this one had no label, just came in a random box , no wrapper & is about 2-3" too tall, so haven't attented to shorten & don't recall having to do that on the last 2? Any way to swap for the right filter?

I tried less expensive filters, but they simply do not last as long or work as well. These filters will outlast 2-3 less expensive filters and do a much better job. These can be cleaned without falling apart.

Product was marked used, but it was in worse condition than indicated. Still usable. It did fit the machine indicated.

I just can't say enough about these humidifier filters. The plastic enclosure keeps their shape intact long after hard water has encrusted them past the point of saturation. They have done a great job of humidifying a small closet where I keep my guitars--no refills necessary or almost three weeks at a pop. Not so great on a larger bedroom, where the humidifier tank (the weak link of the unit) needs to be refilled daily. Gave up on "cool mist" humidifiers because they clog like hell with hard water. Not so these Holmes units. Highly recommended.
