Bought this so that I could remove the joysticks from my PS5 Dualsense controllers and replace them will hall effect controllers. One trick I used to make it easier to remove the solder was to add brand new solder to the joints. This helped to melt the older solder that was already in place on the pins. Once the new solder is in place, I just put the pump on top, waited a few seconds, then pressed the button and it would suck it all out.

I've had mixed results desoldering with this tool. Sometimes it works very well. Sometimes it leaves too much solder behind. It appears to me that when the PCB solder pad has a hole that is noticeably larger than the wire/pin in it, the desoldering tool works well. If the hole is just slightly bigger than the wire/pin, it seems to have trouble sucking up sufficient solder to clear the hole. Sometimes adding more solder first actually helps the desoldering process. The suction mechanism takes a little getting used to. When you press the button, it sucks in the melted solder in one shot. It expels the solder when you release the button. On a couple of occasions, I expelled the solder back onto the pad being desoldered... but you eventually get the hang of it.One improvement that I'd like to see is desoldering tips with a smaller outer diameter because the outer diameter of the tips provided with the tool is relatively large (approx. 4.3 mm) making it hard/impossible to desolder closely spaced wires/pins on a PCB.

For the past week I have been desoldering with a manual pump, working on C64 boards, and that repetitive action was wearing me down. After one evening with this desoldering pump, I'm never going back. While it does not have all of the features of a desoldering station, it does everything I need it to do. The instructions are minimal, but I just: 1. heat the solder; 2. wiggle tip on the pin / solder blob; 3. suck; 4. release the solder into an empty tin can.As others have mentioned, make sure you hold the button until you are over a place where you want it to "sneeze out" the solder, so you don't make a mess on your board. I practiced on a messed up PCB I received in a lot, and it took me one chip to get the hang of it. Additionally, there is no temperature control, but I didn't notice any overheating issues, lifted pads, or messed up vias.If you're a casual hobbyist like me, this is worth every penny.

Ok I've seen cheap one and reallyyyyyyyyyy expensive ones, So I did some research for North American suckers, after watching YouTube and reading reviews on numerous sites and purchased this one. The only issues I can fault from it is that it has a 2 pin plug and not 3 pin grounded plug, which when dealing with electrical should be a a safety thing. Also if you take it apart and reassemble it and it doesn't work, very likely you over tightened the the end cap. just loosen it off a little. Other than that it works way better than a mechanical one and you don't need a second hand holding a soldering gun and its quicker, just place it of the solder you want removed hold the button it will suck in, move it quickly away from your work area and release and it will spit it out. Just do it quickly, the longer you hold it, the more wear and tear on the magnetic plunger. Hope that helps :)

I'm pleasantly surprised at how well this works. Yes, it's a bit clunky, and you need to be mindful about not releasing the button until you have moved the tip to a receptacle that you want to release the solder into. But, it's way better than solder wick, and far less clunky than holding a soldering iron in one hand, holding a manual solder puller in your other hand, and holding your PCB in your teeth. This thing is not for production work, but for the price it's a great hobbyist tool. Hopefully it will last a while. Two things I've noticed: give it a couple of extra seconds before hitting the button, to make sure it melts the solder on both sides of the board, and have a pair of pliers handy to snug down the tip once it heats up the first time (or maybe every time - I don't know whether expansion and contraction will cause the tip to loosen every time you fire it up).

The device is a bit hard to clean with the wire they give you. It spits solder tin onto the board after every desolder. I assume the solder vacuum is quickly pumping air back out after initially sucking in and I'm unsure if that is intended behavior.Otherwise, works fine for anything with less than 6 legs.

Item arrived well packaged. I was very excited to use. I tried on a few ~2cm high x ~1cm wide (or smaller) electrolytics and it worked (but not great). I tried some resistors and diodes it was not as good as I was expecting (especially comparing to using my manual plunger...maybe a 'little' easier?)I used the item very little over 4 months. In the end I probably desoldered 30 components (all small electrolytics, resistors, or transistors). In most cases it worked, but poorly and would damage surface of the board. The suction is based on an eledtromangetic solenoid. The solenoid would chatter regularly, not desoldering the component, and spitting solder 'blobs' on the board (not from being full). Eventually, the chatter became the norm and then the desoldering switch (a microswitch), burnt out inside and stopped functioning:I opened the switch to find the internal components of the microswitch (a KW4-3Z-3) were damaged. I bought a replacement microswitch and replaced it.I also opened the unit, cleaned everything - solenoid piston, vacuum chamber etc.. I opened the rear where the power cable enters and checked diodes etc. which were all functioning as diodes do. After replacement of the switch, the unit would still chatter (as much as just before it failed). It failed after 3 minutes of use.I would not recommend this item at all. I purchased a YAHUA 929D for a similar price and it's working really well (like I expected an automatic unit to). I've only used it on about 20 components in one sitting on it's arrival (including some 8/16-pin op amps and similar ics). I just hope it lasts, but the difference is 'night' and 'day.'

I needed to replace a USB B port. My first attempt with a de-soldering wick failed miserably. So I picked this up. It worked great on the first try!Pro'smultiple heads with different nozzle sizesGood suctionGreat heatStraight forward and easy to useCon'sBinary single action (pressing the button sucks, releasing the button purges)Suction action can be a little violent. Your hand may move if go do not have a strong grip. Please note that my 4 star rating does not mean there's anything wrong. I do not believe in 5 stars for just a good product, and neither should you. A product that does what is says at the average price is an an average product, That's 3 stars and there's nothing wrong with that. If everything is 5 star, then there's nothing actually great out there!1 Terrible, immediate return2 Works, but is disappointing in more then one way3 Works as described and is priced fairly4 Either works better then described, or Works as described but at a better price.5 Combination of works better then described, has extra value/features, Top tier product, amazing value for money.
