I purchased this card to handle a pair of HD's in a RAID config, and an SSD as a boot drive on Windows 7. It handled the RAID well with a pair of Seagate Constellations, and performance was good. However, couldnt get TRIM to work with the SSD. Regardless of the drivers setup, or forced setting in Win7, TRIM would not operate, and the SSD performance fell off a cliff. I switch back to an older Marvell 92xx based card I have (not a RAID card), and it works fine with the SSD, TRIM and all.The other problem was shipping. Ordered on Thursday, had one-day shipping i.e. 'arriving tomorrow' Friday. Friday came and went, no show. Not updates. Saturday no show, but updated to be expected on Sunday. No show on Sunday. Finally shows up Monday. Already picked up another card locally as I couldnt wait for everyone involved in shipping to sort out the nonsense.

The card does seem to work nicely once you get it installed correctly.I installed using Windows 7, but I suspect it will work fine with Windows 10.1. The instructions shipped with card are pretty bad.2. The installation complexity will depend mainly on your BIOS and mother board type.3. Non UEFI BIOS motherboards should be the easiest as the card will appear during boot-up.4. UEFI BIOS motherboards will be the most difficult to set up. As the card BIOS does not appear during boot-up.Windows 7 Installation with UEFI BIOS:1. Install the card and boot Windows, you may or may not see the BIOS for the 620L Card.2. Once Windows starts go to Device Manager and look for a new Device under a group called Other Devices.3. If you do not see this other device (at this point the driver is not installed), remove the card and put it in another PCIE slot. The first slot I tried did not work.4. If you tried all the PCIE slots and you can't see the un-installed device in device manager you are in trouble.5. You could try going into The motherboard bios and try to figure out how to get the UEFI motherboard to allow windows to see the card. This I can't help with.6. Once you get the Device appearing in Device manager you still have to install the driver for the 620L Card. My card did not come with a CD, so I had to go to HighPoint's website and download the driver.7. There are two downloads available for Windows, one is the actual driver, the other is some other Utility that you do not need to install. The drivers are in a zipfile, the other utility is an EXE file. You should only need the zipfile it contains the drivers.8. Extract the drivers from the zip file. Then from Device Manger, select Update Driver and point to the directory where you extracted the drivers.Performance seems to be good, I can't tell the difference between the Native SATA motherboard ports or the 620L Card.Good luck, Hope this helps:-R

Works perfectly under Windows. The drivers for the additional windows control don't seem to be available (the website is a bit of a mess!) but this does not impact functionality, just set up raid arrays using the bios controls. The hardware is plug and play and best to configure at the hardware level rather than in windows anyway.

I made the mistake of confusing the "Rocket 640L" host bus adapter (this product) for the "RocketRAID 640L" HBA, which is what I wanted. The silk-screened text on the front of the Rocket 640L says both, so it isn't surprising that I got confused. But the cards are different. The Rocket 640L uses software provided by the chip vendor (Marvell) and does not have or need a driver for Windows because it looks like an AHCI-compliant device. That's good if you want a plug-in-play solution, but bad if you want to manage your RAID arrays outside of a woefully inadequate BIOS. The RocketRAID 640L uses HighPoint's software and driver and provides much better (and needed) functionality.I have several HighPoint RAID controllers and generally found them to be reliable and easy to use. Their software is miles ahead of any chip vendor's. Don't get the Rocket 640L (they won't support it), but go for the RocketRAID 640L unless you run an o/s other than Windows or MacOS.

This HighPoint Rocket 640L just works--no issues with my system seeing it in a PCI-e X16 slot and getting twice the speed of my on board SATA2. I highly recommend this controller if you are using it with the Samsung 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD512 512 Gig SSD. I can't comment on any other SSD compatibility, but I suspect that it will work with many of them if not all of them. You also get 4 ports instead of 2 ports. For your reference, please see the review that I wrote for the Apricorn Velocity Solo X2 Sata3 controller just below that has only 2 ports and causes continuous boot loops when the Samsung 512 Gig SSD is attached to it. I'm enclosing the reviews of other products to help consumers who are looking to upgrade their system with a Samsung SSD and avoid wasted time and returns headaches.Review of Apricorn Velocity X2: Purchased this controller (Apricorn Velocity X2) to work with a Samsung Pro Series MZ-7PD512 SSD (512 Gig), directly from Apricorn because there was going to be a shipping delay purchasing it through Amazon. My 5 year old mother board could see the SSD, and I was able to attach the SSD directly to the SATA2 on the MB and do a fresh install of Win7 64bit--no problems. When I installed the Apricorn controller in my system in a PCI-e X16 slot my system wouldn't boot and did continuous boot loops. I purchased a HighPoint Rocket 640L, put it in the same slot, plugged in the SSD, and no worries. Doubled my speed when measured with crystalmark. I also plugged in my old hard drives (3 of them) and they were a little faster as well rather than leaving them plugged into the MB Sata2 slots. I called Apricorn, talked to technical support 3/28/2013, and they admitted that they had just discovered that the Samsung SSD and new Corsair did not work with their controller--and they had no fix for it yet.Their solution is elegant from the standpoint that you don't need any mounting hardware and cables, but it just doesn't work with all SSDs. You might want to contact Apricorn tech support to verify that it works with your SSD before purchasing. But, the HighPoint 640L has 4 ports instead of 2, comes with 4 cables, and costs $30 less at $69 here on Amazon. My system immediately recognized the HighPoint, no booting issues, and double the speed of Sata2--a no brainer. As a point of reference, I upgraded from Win XP 32bit with 3gig ram to Win 7 64bit 24 gig ram and added the SSD. My boot time dropped from over 4 minutes to just under 1 minute with shut down time dropping to 7 seconds from 1 minute. All of my apps just blip on the screen. Load times are completely insignificant now. As I write this I have 139 processes running and 172 programs installed (7 running), and my system still starts quickly and loads apps and data like blips on the screen. FireFox 19 used to take 30 seconds to load. It's my slowest loading program at 3 seconds, because I leave a dozen to 20 tabs open from my previous sessions, which uses tremendous resources on the computer. I can't recommend enough doing this type of upgrade. I've been in the computer industry since 1981, and I finally have the nearly perfect speedy system. Good luck with your new installation...
