I bought this diffuser after almost burning my oatmeal out in the desert in my RV. I decided to try it out this morning in the house as I've had trouble with boil overs when simmering steel cut oatmeal for 20 minutes. 15 minutes in, and not a single one! I've seen these over the years and never knew what they were used for! 🤣🤣

I bought this to diffuse heat from under my Chemex coffee brewer on a gas stove. It does precisely what I expected. The diffuser cools quickly and easily tows away in a cabinet.

We recently moved and this house has a very powerful gas stove. I noticed that even on the lowest setting, simmer setting, my sauces and chili were cooking "hot" and too fast with a tendency to stick and be ruined. So I ordered this and it is emmensely helpful. My sauces are now able to cook slower and I do not worry about them burning with a too-hot flame. I also love the folding handle for storing. Great price for a much needed piece of kitchen cooking equipment.

I bought this to use with a clay comal on my cooktop stove so it wouldn't scratch the surface. It does the trick in terms of heating without scratching, but as others have pointed out, it's not stainless steel. It became discolored after a week or two and after I washed it, it rusted. I wish Amazon would make the seller take off the "stainless steel" label. I understand it's cheap, but they can't claim it's stainless steel when it stains and rusts.

Solid! This is two THICK pieces of stamped steel, with a STEEL easily detachable handle.I was buying traditional 'wood and tin' ones, and the handles or actual tin consistently degrade after 2 years. This one feels like a tool that's built to last. It's slightly smaller than the 'generic' ones, which IMO works much better for a gas stove. Some people claim the handle is unstable. I disagree. I like it. It's strong, and it's easily detachable by pinching it.

I had a heat diffuser for years and just wore it out! I'd replaced it with a couple of others, more expensive than this one from HIC Harold Import, but they didn't last. Either the handle wasn't attached well, of the diffuser wasn't put together evenly. This one from HIC I love. This one is perfect! It works great and I can tell I will have it for years. It'll work out to pennies per month by the time I have to replace it LOL. Don't put it in the dishwasher and don't soak it underwater and they DO last for years. These work great, especially on gas stoves. The most common concern is a strong smell at first. Wash it and then put it on the stove with a heavy pot of water and low summer for 30-45 minutes. The new smell goes away. And if it is not holding up (buckling or crinkling) you are likely not using it properly. They aren't meant (as far as I've known using them for over 25 years) to stay on high heat. I learned tofirst use them for macrobiotic cooking but have seen them used for delicate items like carmelizing, candies, chocolates, and more. It's not for rush cooking. It's great for cooking slowly on the stove because food doesn't burn on low and it cooks soooo evenly. I believe it takes less energy to cook something too. It makes grains come out perfectly! It's perfect for nishimi style veggie cooking (little water/long slow cooking,) overall cooking slowly, and making "crunchy" rice. It's such an easy, fun tool to use! Thanks so much!

Note: I have only used this product twice and have had it for less than a week.Pros:It works. I don't really know how, but it does. It's lightweight.I put it in the dishwasher prior to using and it didn't rust or fall apart. The handle can be removed and didn't seem to get too hot while cooking.Cons:It became a rustic color after using it that reminded me of the campfire sandwich makers you stick right into the fire. This isn't necessarily the bad part. I just worry that it looks like it may become too brittle over time.I am posting pictures of it in action so please take a look.I bought it to use with my new stainless steal cookware. I had already gotten a burn spot in one of the skillets right off the bat. So I was afraid to cook, knowing my gas flame isn't trustworthy and my new cookware could scorch beyond repair.I used my Tamer on the same skillet that had the "spot" which I heard will burn food in that spot every time no matter what. Well, no reburning only good stable cooking. It did take longer to cook than I normally would but at least I didn't ruin my pan.I definitely recommend. Gave four stars because I could see this as an investment I'll have to keep making if it doesn't hold up over time.**Update***October 11, 2012It's still holding up. Still tames the flame. I found a second type at an estate sale that a bit older and a little sturdier. It has a stiff wooden handle.I haven't used this one a lot and have NOT put it back in the dishwasher again. But would still recommend for stainless-steel cookware
