The height gage works ok after cleaning up the rust off the base and lightly stoning the mast to increase smoothness. The fine adjustment was kind of clunky so I cut down the length slightly and tightened up the black lash with 2 stainless polished washers in each end of the knurled knob. Much better now. I did not receive the case that was advertised in the description, unless the manufacturer thinks styrofoam packaging and shipping cardboard is a case. Deceptive advertising from my point of view. All in all the gage works ok for my needs. It is accurate and repeatable. If you don’t mind tinkering and working on the gage to de-clunk it this gage will probably work for you. If you expect a high quality inspection gauge thisain’t it. I purchased it to scribe the centerline on steel for bladesmithing the carbide tip works well for this. I’m still expecting the case they advertised but not holding my breath.

Missing locking screw on fine adjuster rendering “micro adjustment impossible. Fitted case is a crumbly styrofoam shipping box. Not suitable for anything but the trash can.

6" Dial Height Gauge - Look, this is not a Mitutoyo, but it is also not the same price. I am a toolmaker and find myself reasonably satisfied with this for home or hobby use. The scriber is sharp. It easy to adjust and holds the setting. The base is a little off-center. This is just an esthetic defect and does not impact its use. A certain crudeness of construction is to be expected in the price range.I was disappointed that it did not come with any kind of storage box. You certainly do not want to keep this out in the open where it will collect moisture, dust and dirt.I do not recommend this for professional use in a machine shop, but otherwise, this is pretty good.

Like a few others, the scale wasn't zeroed when the foot was on a surface plate. The scale was secured, unlike some other reviews, but I removed it and elongated the screw clearance hole so that the scale zeroed, and then resecured with epoxy after squaring it to the reference.Required a little deburring and a shim washer under the vernier adjustment nut to reduce clearance and improve “backlash” in the micro-adjust.Like every other dial caliper, I popped the dial cover and zeroed the needle and dial face to satisfy my OCD. Accirate and repeatable to 0.0005” now (interpreting an extra decimal between marked increments).Yup. Time spent, but saved me $400 CAD on comparable brand names. This was fine for me because part of this hobby is doing exactly this with either rescued antiques or Chinese imports.

I did lots of research before purchasing. Read many reviews, several complaints about the base being rough. My unit is in perfect condition. Packaging was way above average. Why pay twice as much when this one will work. I really like the fine tune adjustment feature.

It is a bit stiff, so it's not going to float across a surface and show irregularities, but is easy enough to adjust and is repeatable. Just make sure to clean the oil off

After having really good luck with some cheap digital calipers I thought i'd give this cheap height gauge a shot. Its pretty terrible (not very flat, not very straight). The instructions are laughably bad - would it have been that hard for the vendor to go and get a proper translation ? It looks like they translated the instructions from Chinese to Klingon to Ancient Egyptian and finally English.

For the price I'm very happy with this height gage.I would have given it 3 stars because when I got it, it would bind up at a certain spot and wasn't super smooth but after stoning the scale a little bit and cleaning and oiling, it's now extremely smooth and easy to move.It is extremely accurate and repeatable when compared to my digital height gage and I actually prefer it over my digital height gage now.If you can't afford the higher end height gages and as long as you're willing to spend a few minutes cleaning it when you get it, I would definitely recommend and would purchase it again if I had to.

The fine tuning knob has very poor threads and is partially stripped. A small spring fell out of the device, cannot figure out how to replace it. Do not recommend this product.

I use this to scribe center lines for grinding custom knives, so far it’s working great for that.I wish the height was easier to adjust as it’s a bit clunky, but for the money this will work just fine until I can justify a Mitutoyo
