The kids are always taking my tape to see how tall they are 2 or 3 times a week so this will eliminate that. so far so good.

If you follow the directions and rest the bottom onto the floor, then the height measurement is off by 3 cm. You can see in the photo that my tape measure is reading 7 cm from the floor while the stadiometer is reading 10 cm. This can be solved by mounting it 3 cm higher off of the floor, but in my case I already drilled and installed screws into my concrete wall which was no small effort so I'm just going to add 3 cm to any measurements that I take with it. Kind of a bummer that I must use this work around so I gave it 3 stars. Also, not sure why they would say to mount it with the base resting on the floor if it is always going to be off by 3 cm if done that way.

I actually needed this for a professional setting where physicals are conducted regularly, and this fit my needs perfectly. Very easy to set up with the included hardware, though the box it came in was somewhat falling apart by the time I got it. Not a big deal though since the construction of the stadiometer is fairly robust by itself.

While the kids are still little we can measure them on their birthdays and mark it on the wall, just to have a record of their growth. Its exactly accurare as it actually was made for a professional setting. It made well and should last forever. Its just cool to have one. I think its worth the money. Not everyone has one of these in their house~!

The build quality isn't as good as I would like it to be, but for home use this is overdoing it anyway. I'll admit that I was initially confused about the design as well because it telescopes with an outer and inner portion where the scale goes up on the outer part and down on the inner part. The upper part is read by the point where it meets the lower part and the lower part is read by the position where the slider rests. The slider stays put while the whole upper part slides up when measuring someone who is taller than the lower part, but unclips and slides down when measuring someone who is shorter. The latch is a bit loose and the bar that rests on the person's head is a bit wobbly (I tried to show that in the pictures), so I wouldn't recommend this to someone who uses it frequently even though it certainly could be used for that purpose. It's just not as solid (or even easy to read) as I would like it to be. There are other designs that have a window that the slider moves and inside the window is an indicator that points to the measurement. I think I should have gotten that kind. I do like how it comes with mounting hardware (enough for two of them, actually) that spaces it away from the wall. That makes it easier to install on wall surfaces that are more varied and textured than your typical drywall.

If you want to measure anyone up to 5 ft 5 in then it's fine, but even then the moveable top piece scratches up your wall. Returning it.
