The edges are a bit rough, but it worked in my application of milling holes in aluminum plates

This is the third xy attachment I've bought and the first one that was machined straight enough to be able to adjust the gibs to eliminate any play. I use this on my wood lathe to occasionally machine metal. But the play in the leadscrew is over .030. The leadscrew is bent, crooked, rough, looks like it was stamped instead of cut, and the nut is extremely loose. About 10% of the graduated markings are not legible, especially the "0" one. The handles on the knobs don;t turn. I replaced the leadscrew and machined a new nut. I probably would have been better off just buying a metal lathe.

Very happy so far with product but you should consider also purchasing "1018 Steel T-Slot Nut, Black Oxide Finish, Grade 8, Tapped Through, 1/2"-13 Threads, 5/8" Height, 5/8" Slot Depth" to use as part of clamp down kit for jigs, etc... I purchased this and it fit perfectly in T slots for clamps down kit. Will have to see how it performs over time of course but so far very, very happy!

Just received this yesterday. It was in terrible condition. It was so loose in every regard that I contemplated immediately sending it back. After a complete tear down, clean up, lapping the gibs and thorough greasing, it is now in serviceable order. It is very tight now and the length of the gibs really contribute to how solid it is. The top on this given unit appears to be within about one and a half thousandth. I did order some brass to make new gibs but it might have been unnecessary. The stock gibs are made of some kind of soft steel. Still, brass and straight gibs will make it even tighter and smoother. The dials are worthless and the backlash is severe. I'll be looking for a means to improve them. Oh, one last important spec, it's 4 5/8" tall. So, 1/8" taller than published. All in all, I'm very pleased with the table. Still, it's new and it's a work in progress.For new buyers I suggest a complete new tear down. Clean it up with Kerosene or a quality de-greasing cleaner. Then I'd suggest you flatten the gibs as much as possible. This can be time consuming. Use 240# wet or dry sandpaper on a piece of glass, a flat concrete floor, a flat counter top or any other way you can find to secure the sandpaper to a flat surface. I use a piece of glass with adhesive backed Silicon Carbide wet/dry paper and I keep it wet with water. It will take off considerable metal but they eventually flatten. Once the gibs are lapped the operation of the bench will be vastly improved. Make sure you liberally grease all metal on metal surfaces. I used white lithium grease.

This table is obviously imported, as are virtually all tools these days.The table only needed a little adjustment to tighten up the gibs and some cleaning before use. It is tight and perfectly adequate for what it's intended uses are.There is about .015 pre travel in the screws, which is not all that bad and is easily compensated for. I could easily shim the screws to reduce the pre travel, and may do this in the future if the need arises. My 1940's vintage South Bend lathe has more play than this, and I have learned to make it work just fine. If you need more precision, simply put a dial indicator on the table and you will get all the accuracy that you need.I like the fact that the dials are calibrated in inches. Most of the other tables I looked at were mm, and I have a hard time converting in my head.The only small issue that I ran into is that the "T" slots are not quite deep enough. I had some standard 5/8 T nuts, and had to grind off the top of the nut. When the nut is in the slot, the nut is higher than the table top, and as a result it is not possible to clamp anything tight to the table top with a standard T nut.

I just got this sliding table and I am very disappointed. The reason I got this table is because sometimes I need to make a series of holes with the drill press across a metal or wooden bar so I bought this and a drill press vice to make my life easier. In the picture you can see that the dials have a fairly fine scale and that would help but what is the point of having a scale on the sliding dials when the play of the dial is about 10 degrees on its scale?I am also disappointed that the dial handles are just screwed on and when you rotate them right, they get unscrewed. Overall, I think that I may have gotten better quality for a third of what this costs.2 stars just because it slides considerably longer than some other sliding tables I have seen.

As others have stated, it needs to be taken apart and cleaned and greased. Mine came with no stripped threads or shipping damage, only a quarter turn of backlash. I doubt I'll be using it to make parts for NASA but it is perfect for a hobby mill. Pretty rugged too.
