The bottom of the sealed shaft base is bent putting pressure on the shaft making it not able to rotate freely - it's light the drag is cranked down.. also the trigger mount is loose.. for there price of these you'd think they would have better quality control! Another one I ordered has the spool mounted at an angle I don't think that one is an issue but still.. quality control!!

Love heritage traps! Seal them with Thompson water seal (2/3 coats and your good). The plastic spools are garbage. Get yourself a high grade plastic, or stick with the aluminum... My two cents.4 stars for the plastic reels.

I own 3 of the unfinished HL traps. This year I decided to take them apart and apply a boiled linseed to all the wood parts (for long term preservation) and replace the plastic reels with metal reels from the HL website. When I was replacing the reels I noticed that one of the reel shafts wasn’t screwing into the upright as far as it should. This caused an issue with the drag system. I contacted HL customer service and after we couldn’t figure it out the Buswells shipped me a new upright no questions asked. These are good people running a business the right way. I’ve caught a ton of fish on my traps and can honestly say that I’m very happy with them. A great product matched with great CS. You can’t beat that.

Heritage has changed the trap using much smaller pieces of wood and plastic spools. Will be looking at a different brand next time

Big enough to see for you and passing snowmobilers .Less likely to get run over . Hardly ever a wind flag . Quality construction, own a couple 17 years old . Can still get steel spools a plus . They still spin good after a couple days ice fishing ! The BEST !

As always the Heritage tip ups are the best on the market! Love the plastic reels instead of the old metal ones. The plastic reels do not freeze your fingers when reeling up your line like the metal reels. Great improvement!
