Much easier than I anticipated. If the kit included the drill bit it would eliminate finding one the right size. I chose this brand over the others that did include the drill bit because it's that important to do this job right the first time.

Made the mistake of using an impact driver on a bolt and stripped the threads on my crossmember. None of the shops around me wanted to touch it. This kit was surprisingly easy to use and saved me a lot of headache. Drilled out the old threads was easy since I wasn't making a new hole (bit sold separately). Be sure to use cutting oil when tapping. I backed out 1/4 to 1/2 turn for every 2 turns and really took my time. Once everything was installed it worked great!

The kit (5546-8) is a special thread tap, a coil insertion tool, and a dozen 3/8" long stainless inserts. They assume you have the drill and tap handle (had the drill, a nice tap handle costs another $20). The tap in this kit is a through-hole style and not a bottoming tap that you might see in generic photos, so select your kit carefully. Though the contents of the kit come from a low-cost manufacturing country the quality is good and everything worked perfectly for the four inserts I installed. The tap generates lots of chips that pack the flutes, recommend hand tapping and backing off 1/4 turn for every turn of cut and pulling the tap every five or six threads to clean it out. I liked the security the big name brand brought to the repair - happy to spend the extra couple of bucks for cheap insurance when I'm spending a day upside down drilling out sheared bolts and fixing threads in an expensive assembly.

I tossed around the idea of grabbing one of the lesser named "coil" kits, but with the job I was working on, I couldn't chance them not being dead on. I grabbed this kit along with the recommended Bosch drill bit and everything worked out perfectly. The Heli-Coil brand kit is definitely a high quality fix for important thread applications. The coils, tap, and installation tool worked out great. I was able to fix the problem I had first try. Now I have some spare coils and the cost was worth the peace of mind and knowing it's a precise and quality fix.

Repaired the A/c return line and got back onto the compressor. It is actually tighter and stronger than it was previously. No leaks. It's a great value. The trick is to follow instructions, use the hand tap wrench, purchase one, it's needed and will help make this job easier. Don't over drill your tarket area, just lightly drill the sides for a few seconds, then use the provided tools. Go Slow!!! Don't force it and all will turn out well. It took me ten minutes. Take your time so you don't ever have to do it again.

I have to admit that I was nervous about installing this product. I needed to replace the threads for two cylinder studs on an engine. I was worried about drilling the hole a little cockeyed and then the studs wouldn't line up. If I screwed it up I didn't have a "plan B". With all of my apprehension the first one took @ 45 minutes. After doing the first one, the second took about 10 minutes. It's much simpler than I had imagined it. Follow the directions and it works smoothly. One point though. When drilling the hole for the helicoil you need to make sure to take into account the taper on the drill bit tip. When screwing in the helicoil it will stop when it hits the taper. Make sure the hole is deep enough with the full diameter of the drill bit for the insert to go all the way in. It's really a very simple process that does an excellent job.

I purchase this beacuase a Mechanic stripped the caliper bolt hole on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. He then told me I needed a a whole new spindle because of the stripped bolt whole which would cost hundreds on dollars in parts and labor. I want to tell anyone who needs to repair a stripped bolt hole that this product work great. I completed the job in under a hour, start to finish. Just keep in mind that in order to use this product I also had to purchase a 21/64 th drill bit to drill out the hole before repairing the threads for the helicoil to go into. You might also want to purchase a T handle designed to hold the the tap straight while making the new threads. Again this is a fast and easy way to repair threads and it will save you a small fortune in stead of paying a machanic a lot of money to do a 45 minute job.
