Common FAQs

What is Non-Woven Geotextile Fabric used for? Non-Woven Geotextile Fabric is used for many applications including farming/gardening, french drains, landscaping, road stabilization, drainage installations, rip rap, retaining walls, and volleyball court construction.

Woven vs non woven geotextile? Which is better woven or nonwoven geotextile? Nonwoven Geotextile - because nonwoven provides superior strength as well as water permeability (at least 100 GPM per sq ft). Meanwhile, woven fabric only provides superior strength but very little water permeability. We sell both types of fabric because woven fabric is more economical compared with nonwoven fabric.

What is nonwoven geotextile? A Nonwoven Geotextile is a soft & thick felt like material that is made from millions of polypropylene fibers. Sandbaggy Non Woven goes through our proprietary manufacturing process that transforms millions of loose polypropylene fibers into strong and flexible nonwoven geotextile.

Does geotextile fabric let water through? Only Non Woven Geotextile Fabric allows water to go through the fabric. Other Geotextile fabrics do not. Sandbaggy Non Woven Geotextiles allows 100 gallons per minute of flow-through every square foot of the material! Woven Geotextiles do not though.

What's the difference between landscape fabric and geotextile fabric? Those two terms are used interchangeably in most contexts. However, for drainage applications such as french drains, Non Woven fabric must be used to allow for water drainage.

Do I need Geotextile Fabric For A French Drain? Yes, you need to use Non Woven Geotextile Fabric to be specific. The Non Woven part is key. If you use Woven fabric, water will not drain through the fabric and your french drain will fail. We recommend Sandbaggy 4 oz or 8 oz Non Woven Drainage Fabrics because both provide at least 100 GPM of water drainage.

What can I use instead of geotextile fabric? There unfortunately are no other alternatives.

Can you make a French drain with just gravel? No, because your soil will eventually mix with your gravel causing your french drain to fail. Using a Non Woven Filter Fabric is key in creating a separation layer between the soil and gravel keeping the gravel clean and allowing water to enter the perforated pipe.

When should you use geotextile fabric? We recommend using the geotextile fabric for Farming/Gardening, Landscaping, Road Stabilization, Drainage Installations (French Drain Fabric), Rip Rap & Retaining Walls applications.

Is geotextile fabric waterproof? No. Geotextile fabrics are not meant to the waterproof. Sandbaggy Non Woven Fabric is engineered to allow water drainage through the fabric.

I bought this fabric for a drainage project and it definitely did not upset.Previously I had bought some cheap 8 oz. fabric that came from China. When tested it for water penetration, the water just beaded up and was repelled, not the purpose for this type of fabric. Then I researched the Sandbaggy material and I decided to purchase. The fabric is strong and properly allows water penetration, which is mandatory for a drainage project.Definitely would buy this product again if the need arises.

There’s lots of cheaper landscape fabric on the market but I prefer sandbaggy since while you can find the same thickness/weight fabric by other vendors, having used similar weights from different companies, the quality of both the fabric and the triple punch of the sandbaggy versions seem higher and worth the money.Since I buried this fabric, consistent with its intended use, I won’t have any idea on its actual durability and effectiveness for years, but that is why I spent a bit more upfront. That said, when choosing fabric it pays to really think about the size. Cost can vary significantly per square fit by the same manufacturer over different widths and lengths. I’m guessing this is due to shipping cost that are built in to the price. Regardless of the reason, it pays to compare costs. However, don’t forget to include the overlap you’ll need between two different sizes. For example, two 5’ wide versions don’t equal one 10’ version since you’ll need to overlap the two 5’ pieces by 6”. The other side is given the shape of your project, you might have less waste with the flexibility of a five foot version over a ten foot version.

This product is well suited for getting the job done right. It came quickly and the price is what you get quality material. It's thick and malleable for the curves and crevices. It's a breeze to use and cut. It's very durable as we put our drainage pipe and rock over it.So glad Amazon has this item offered. Highly recommend if you want to go with high quality material.

This is similar material to grow bags. Very durable and thick. Easy to cut and shape to fit my raised garden beds. You could easily use this to line wire planters or make your own grow bags.

While the fabric seems to be good, the packaging is absurd. I ordered 6' x 100', I assumed it would be folded so it would essentially be 3'(folded) x 100' and then rolled. No, they do some weird fold thing so that you have to unroll about 20' before you even come to an end. This is a pain if you are working alone with this stuff. I will now have to unfold it and reroll it properly so I can use it 10 or 20 feet at a time. This probably would not be an issue if you have a 4 person crew. I have never received filter fabric "folded" in such a stupid way. I had never purchased from this vendor before, not going to again.

I purchased this product to line a 4x6 pressure treat wood base for a gravel shed foundation. It's thick enough that it lays flat to help with measuring, and I also had to use brand new shears to cut sections. The weight also helped when lining the foundation, it stayed exactly where it was put down. I used some landscaping staples along the seams but I don't know if that is strictly necessary with this product. On gravel delivery day, we dumped, raked, and leveled 4 cubic yards of 3/4 drainage aggregate. Even aggressively raking the gravel on the fabric didn't result in an ripping or tearing. No movement of the fabric while working and it was helpful to to not have to slow down to "baby" it.The only con I would say is the fabric is folded over and then rolled up. You need a decent amount of flat space to unroll the fabric for measuring. Given ripoff shipping prices, I can understand why they ship it that way though.Excellent product and I will definitely purchase additional fabric for other projects.

And product is strong and easy to lay down I put three-quarter inch rock down on top of it I could drive over with my tractor and it wouldn’t rip. The water move through it fine I did find a couple little pieces of grass growing through the edges were admin covered yet but I like it. I find that the woven + non-woven is a little better for me. Verse just it non woven.A lot more expensive than the VIVOSUN 5oz I think the VIVOSUN product works a little better for me

This non-woven geotextile fabric is a step up from regular big box-bought landscape fabric, both in quality and price. It is thick and sturdy, but easy to work with and cut to fit.It is perfect for projects like wrapping french drains to keep roots and dirt out while still allowing water passage. There are numerous videos showing this process available online. All the pros in said videos say don't skimp on fabric for your drain because you will regret it later.I didn't rate durability yet because I have only installed it a week ago, but so far the drain works great.
