The instructions printed on the weights is wrong; specifically, the amount of weight that you're supposed to add to the total. However, when using the correct values, the weights work fine, which is why I gave them 2 stars rather than 1. You shouldn't have to figure out that the instructions are wrong, and deduce how to properly use a product. Lots of people who buy these are simply going to trust the 88lbs, and believe that they are 12 pounds lighter than they actually are.TLDR Explanation:The directions on the counterweight are wrong. The weight acts at 100lbs in the 100lb position, not the 88lbs stated in the instructions. In the 150lbs position, it's still 150lbs.Full Explanation:I originally thought it was odd that the added value was inconsistent (i.e. didn't scale with the weight markers) when using it in the 150lb position vs the 88lb position, and now I'm certain that that's wrong. The instructions say that the weight can be used in 2 roles: (1) to add 88lbs to the shown weight, or (2) to add 150lbs to the shown weight. In order to use it in 150lb mode, you place it in the notch between 100 & 150lbs (the same place that the big slider would go for 150lbs), and when in this position, it adds 150lbs. Alternatively, you can also put it in the notch between the 50 & 100lbs markers, but in this position, it only adds 88lbs, not the full 100. Which seemed odd, but I trusted that it was correct, but then I noticed that, with the counter weight, the scale was producing drastically different values than my electric digital scale. Long story short, the 88lbs value is wrong.Think about it: the big slider that's built into the bar, moves along the full length of the bar, and in all positions, it's added weight matches the markings on the bar, but the weight of the big slider never changes. So, that must mean that the full length of the bar is calibrated for a fixed weight counterbalance; i.e. there's no scaling factor corresponding to how far down the bar you are. Furthermore, when the extra hanging weight is added in the 150lb position, it acts as 150lbs. So, if the hanging weight acts as 150lbs in the 150lbs position, and the bar markings are calibrated for a fixed weight moving along the full length of the bar, that must mean that when that same hanging weight is in the 100lbs position, it would act as 100lbs. And when you accept this new value, the medical scale's readings come back in line with the digital scale's readings, with only a ~3 pound difference, which could be explained by the imprecision of the devices, or perhaps the un-levelness of my floor.
