A HDMI output includes video and audio but VGA doesn’t carry the audio. This adapter (like 1 I had previously) splits the audio and has a jack for you to run a connection to your speakers. But to do this it also needs power from a micro USB Connection. That cable is not included. Moreover if you don’t need the audio function you still need to use the USB or else the video will not function. So long as you know this when you buy you’ll be ok.

I'm sure it's a great product however it doesn't work for a Dell PC to a new Hisense smart TV , it shorted out the whole computer several times and it shut downI had to use the display port to HDMI cord insteadI tried the VGA to HDMI and that didn't work either .My son is just happy to have his PC for his bday working

I bought this HDMI to VGA adapter thinking that it can go the other way too, as in VGA to HDMI. That's not the case, and you need to buy an adapter that states it's for that purpose.However, that does NOT mean it's a bad product at all. In fact, it works for what its designed for, HDMI to VGA. So far, no issues with it inside my homelabs server rack.I haven't tried out the USB port, as it works without that plugged in. I suspect it's for audio, as VGA does not carry audio, but HDMI does. So when you convert from HDMI to VGA, you loose that part of the signal. And I suspect that they think the distance will be greater, thus it needs a power boost. That's ALL speculation at this point though. I will be testing that at a later date. Expect an update when I do (it will be a MUCH later date most likely though, as I don't really have a need for audio in my server rack).The picture is exactly what you would expect from VGA, not horrible, but not great, at least compared to HDMI and such.Overall, its a good HDMI to VGA adapter, and it was pretty cheap too. I technically bought 4 at once due to it being cheap (risky I know, but I feel like with such a simple item, its okay to get a bunch like that).

Bought two different brand HDMI to VGA adapters, on the off chance that one was not compatible. Both worked flawlessly. This one, having a male HDMI, sits next to the device sending the signal, and takes a standard VGA cable as an output to the receiving screen/device.Image quality is fine, tested at 1080 and works, but being used daily at 1440x900 resolution.Sound output over 3.5mm jack does work in my use case, but only minimal testing has been done as it's not needed currently.Build quality is fine.I would have no doubts recommending this product. The only thing to consider is where in the setup the adapter is best positioned for you. This one sits near the transmitting device and uses a VGA cable, the other type I purchased plugs directly in to the receiving device, and uses an HDMI cable from the transmitting device.
