I purchased this for an 18,000-gallon pool that was built in the 60s. It took a little bit of jury-rigging to get the fitting to sit correctly in the skimmer; otherwise, assembly was simple. The 4 wheels give it more oomph to climb from the 9 ft deep bottom back up the sides. So far, so good. It cleans the bottom and sides nicely.

Added this unit to our pool to keep the bottom clean. Works well. It follows a random path (sort of like an automatic vacuum cleaner), so it creates a checkerboard like pattern cross-crossing its paths. Eventually it covers most of the pool, but you still will need to manually vacuum some areas if you really want your pool clean. The unit we bought came with 4 wheels which allow it to climb slightly up the walls of the pool - it hikes up on the rear wheels, but that is as far up as it goes. The hose is composed of 10 approximately 3' lengths (about 38" each), so you have a little over a 30 foot range (you lose a little since each length has to be inserted into the previous length). Be sure to measure from where you will connect the hose (the vacuum pump connection) to the farthest corner of the pool to insure it will be long enough. I am not sure if you can buy extra hose. Most likely you will have extra hose and can simply not use one or more of the hose sections. We had 3 sections extra. When installing this vacuum be sure your pump is off and that you fill the hose with water and submerge the unit before turning the pump back on, otherwise you can get air in your pump which might damage it.If you get this vacuum I'd suggest you also buy a vacuum brush to vacuum the spaces it misses - these fit the same hose and use a pole you probably already have.

We upgraded to this vacuum from our old one. First, I will say that we originally had problems with it a few months after we purchased it and a piece just broke off from running around the pool. The company said that we needed to register the product and contact Hayward, so we did. Warranty is a year. Hayward directed us to our local Leslie's Pools who is an authorized dealer and repair company. We brought it to them and they did replace a few parts, but it has been working great since we got it back 3 months ago. All parts & labor covered under warranty. We have a variable speed pump and we usually just leave it on medium speed which powers the vacuum fine. When the vacuum hits a wall, it takes about 10 seconds or so to turn itself around and go in a different direction. It is also high enough to get over the newer safety drain covers that are now required. After a monsoon storm, it does a great job cleaning the debris on bottom of pool. So far, so good!

Well, we had a Hayward for over 8 years and researched, maybe we should try another type, electric or battery powered. We read hundreds of reviews and they all have issues of one sort or another. In the end, we went with another Hayward. It may not be perfect but it does the job----most importantly, with minimal fuss. We just put it in the pool and leave it....take it out from time to time when we remember....and it gets stuff up, leaves our pool clean enough for parties (gives a clean appearance) and swimming---in Florida so it has to work all year round. We don't have to worry about it. We can go out of town and come back to a reasonably clean pool.Note: don't be disappointed if on Day One it doesn't do a masterful job. It took 2 or 3 days for our pool (that had accumulated some debris after old Hayward slowed on cleaning)....but since then our pool has looked just about right.

This is absolutely the best suction cleaner on the market. I have yet to find a pool that this thing will not clean. I've installed many of these in customers pools since before they were made by Hayward. Highly reccomend! If you get a lot of leaf/debris get an inline trap to save your pump trap basket.Almost every single issue people have complained about in these reviews is because the pool cleaner is not properly set up. Buy it here and call a pro out to dial it in of you have problems. Most pools will have a valve that controls how much suction is diverted to the cleaner and some will have different speed settings that can be adjusted to dial in the correct speed for any suction cleaner. Your pump trap will need to be kept clean and your filter will as well as with any suction cleaner. If you have a pressure side cleaner with a booster pump and want to do away with the 2nd pump you might be able to change the plumbing a bit to allow this cleaner to plug into the wall where the pressure cleaner did. It's not always possible but if your dedicated cleaner line is 1.5" or larger this is the way to go.If your hearing gurgling noises when it climbs out of the pool slow it down a little bit. If it's not moving well, give it a little more suction. Otherwise follow the instructions for hose length and adjust the wheel rpm and enjoy. It comes with everything you need to connect it to the wall or plug it into the skimmer. Everything from the hoses to the wall fitting are top quality. There simply is not a better performing or more durable suction cleaner available today.6/15/24And Stilll!!!!Just rpealced a customers aging mx8. Pool was large and in the country which equals dust. The bottom was getting thick. I sent customer a link he ordered and installed and the pool bottom was completely dust free on my next visit. And I know it will be for years to come thanks to this great suction cleaner!
