I had a earlier version of this controller that lasted over 20 years in the hot Florida sun. I was a bit surprised to see I could still buy the same model. Only difference I could spot is they use a different LEDs for the indicators. If you are installing, be careful removing the knock outs on the plastic case. I used a sharp razor knife to cut them out as I was concerned that any other way risked breaking the case. I hope this one gives me another 20 years.

There is no way for a customer who purchases and installs one of these themselves to get direct warranty service from Hayward. I had a unit that failed after less than six months. Contacted Hayward and was told I must contact a "Authorized Service Center" for an evaluation. Finally had the unit reinstalled after over two months and a bill from the "Authorized Service Center" (aka a local pool company) for over $150 for service. To top it all off, when the "tech" installed it, he bent a pin and the unit stopped functioning after one day. I had to dis assemble, unbend the pin and reassemble to get it to function.

Seems to be working good. Used my old sensors and actuator valve. Manual tells you to wire according to color code in figure 4 but it shows no colors. Got in touch with customer service, no help. Just used process of elimination. Now works great.

Lasted less than a year. Production has been moved offshore. I sent it back to hayward for evaluation and they stood behind their warranty and sent me a new one. So far it's been working as it should.

Works great and what is more important is the companies Customer Service!!! I installed this with my pool tech and we had a problem with the sensors that detect the changes in temp to allow the water valve to open and close at right temp. For my enginerring colleagues, the temp sensor in the water pipe Vs the sensor up near the solar panel works based on the sendors change in Resistance (ohms). Feel free to call Hayward tech support for the ohms differences and simple to test the sensor by putting in fridge, take reading, then put in sun if resitance changes then sensor works. Also make sure the one on the roof gets max sunlight. Maintaining our pool at 85, but gets to 92 if needed. Also this version has a closed door that the more expensive model shows so glad has cover and only diff is rhe more expensive version i think includes the water valve. Mine worked fine so used my existing one. Happy solar swimming!!!

This new replaced one that was 16 years old. The circuit board went bad and did not function correctly. Easy to replace and set up. Great instructions, if you need them. Would buy Goldline products again in the future.

We had a Heliotrope Heliomatic controller burn out and the owner passed away w/o a will so they're no longer made and the warranty is no longer good. An installer wanted over $700 to install a new controller, probably even the Hayward GL-235. Instead, I installed this one myself. The only problem was the original installer cut off the locking socket off the wires coming from the valve as the Heliotrope has screw terminals where the Hayward has a three prong socket, no screw terminals. I had to email Hayward to get the proper polarity, search around for a close approximation of a locking socket and file it down to fit the controller's pins. Anyway it works and appears to keep the pool temperature much more even than the Heliomatic. I do miss that temperature display though. All of my equipment is Hayward - they make good stuff although I've had problems with the screws on their pump's fan cover corroding and snapping off.
