Although the downrod said "universal", its 3/4" diameter was too large for my fan. Before taking your fanall apart and off the ceiling, visually compare this replacement rod with the one currently on the fan to see if it looks too wide. The one shipped to me had obviously been opened and returned, probably for the same reason that it won't work for my fan (too big a diameter).

Finish and function of the rod matched the original Hampton Bay rod. We really liked the style of this Hampton Bay fan we purchased but it did not come with a flush mount option. So As the title says, I wanted to shorten up the installed height of a Hampton Bay ceiling fan that shipped with a 6 inch downrod. This moved the blades up two inches to a drop of 11" from the ceiling vs. the original 13 inches. I know it is no much but it is a much more comfortable height for an eight foot ceiling and just a couple of inches lower than some of the flush mount fans we were considering.

Replaced existing 8" rods with these 4" rods to mount the fans closer to the ceiling to give more head room. No issues.

I moved a fan from one house that used a down rod to another that required a shorter mount. This went on perfectly and has been holding securely.

Recently purchased a new ceiling fan and the down rod was to long for our needs. With a quick search on Amazon and 2 day prime shipping this one worked great, especially since none of our local stores had one in stock. Hubby attached it to our Hunter fan with no issues! Has a nice weight and we have no worries that it won't serve our needs. Amazon saves the day and money again!!
