I purchased this toy to add to a church quiet toy bag. They love it! They are a bit too young to truly match the colors, but they love moving the balls around with the wand. I would agree with a few other reviews about the colors of the balls being slightly different than the "cup" they are supposed to go in.

We bought this maze for my 2 year old to play with in the car on our road trip across the country this summer. It was perfect! There were no lose parts falling into his seat, it is lightweight, and durable. He really enjoyed using it and I think it is something that he will get a lot of use of over the next couple of years.

My 24 month old grandson loves playing with this, but the magnet in the wand is not strong enough for him to navigate the balls through the maze himself, so we do it together. It definitely takes more dexterity than most two-year-olds probably have. Even still, we have a great time with it playing together. He tells me which ball to grab and where to place it. He loves when I try to trick him by putting a ball in the wrong colored home space. I am only giving this 4 stars because the Orange colored ball is really not orange at all, but a rather pale-looking orange with a brownish tinge. It is really nice that there are two colors of green and two colors of blue, because he has learned the concept of "light" and "dark" colors.

We purchased this turtle to supplement my daughter's preschool homeschool program. The turtle's smile is inviting and the colors are bright and vibrant. We started out with the very simple task of getting the balls into slots. Your child will develop fine motor skills grasping the magnetic pencil while simultaneously tracing the trails for the beads to follow. As you advance you can practice matching (put the red ball in the red slot) and following directions (put the blue ball in the yellow slot). One of her older cousins even joked that it would be fun to have two and you could do races. One day, not long after I bought this, I walked into the dining room knowing she had been digging in her "school" box and I was amazed to see that she had most of the balls in the right slots. We started using this before my daughter's second birthday and she is still absolutely delighted to play with it almost a year later.

Good, but far from great. The version I received was like the photo here EXCEPT the magnetic PEN IS NO LONGER DETACHABLE. So, earlier reviews with this being an issue with lost pens or child just wanting to play with detaching the pen aren't an issue with the one I received. My biggest complaint is the light blue ball matches the darker blue paint. Add that the two blue balls are very similar in hue. Color matching is also an issue with the green balls matching the paint. The lighter green ball matches the darker green paint. Luckily though, the two green balls are more clearly different th hue then the blue ones. Upon further inspection after receiving, the color matching issue is apparent in the product photo here. Lastly, the orange ball is very dull in color. So, not as close of a much to the paint as if expect to see, but my kid was able to match this one after inquiring "what color is that ball?". I just hadn't looked at it that close since I expected better quality from Hape.I would say it's just me that has a problem with this because I'm a graphic designer sensitive to these things because no one else has mentioned this in the reviews. Except my 2-1/2 yr old keeps putting the light blue & light green balls into the dark blue and dark green painted areas because they MATCH! Everyone knows you can't make a 2-1/2 yr old do anything they don't want to do. So, it's not me telling him this is a color matching issue. The construction seems sturdy and high quality you expect from Hape. Agree with other reviewers about the magnet being weak, but I think it's supposed to be like this so it is possible to separate the balls easier. It all depends on your child's frustration level as I've watched similar age kids use a Lake shore version at the library. Some aren't bothered by the ball dripping off. Others just toss the toy aside quickly when this happens. The execution as a color matching toy is poor in my opinion. For this reason I would not recommend this toy for color matching. Lakeshore has less colors, but they match.

Really nice idea it may look like a very simple puzzle but it takes a good bit of hand coordination to keep the magnetic balls attached to the pen so it will grow with your child. Mines almost two and likes me to help him move the balls into the correct colour while learning them as we go. he attempts to do it himself but cant just yet. While writing this review i have him clambering on me opening and closing his hand shouting "ta ta ta" at the screen he really like his puzzle and its given him some good period of interest.

Both my 2 and 3 year old really like it (though my 2 yo is NOT very good at it yet). Some reviewers complained that the magnet wasn't strong enough and it keeps dropping the balls - it's not an issue of magnet strength, It's an issue of the child keeping the pen over the ball, and not crossing over the walls of the maze. Obviously, if you do this, the ball drops because it has lost a connection with the pen.6/13/14 Update: My only complaint is that the pen is detachable. We've "almost lost" it three or four times. My 2.5 year old loves it (it's a great car toy). But my 4 year old seems to be getting maybe a little too old for it.
