  • Safe Lightweight Alternative to Ceramic Cones and Natural Slate

Product Description

EGGS ON LEAF

Natural Egg Laying Habits

  • In the wild Angelfish and Discus will seek out broad sword plant leaves to spawn.
  • This natural instinct will also cause them to lay eggs on plants in your aquarium.
  • Even without plants a pair will sometimes pick a surface on area they can protect. Heaters and Filters being the most common but not ideal for raising successful hatches.

Fish will Clean the Slate Prior to Egg Laying

  • When you see the pair cleaning the slate eggs are soon to follow.
  • It has a hook bent onto the top of the slate for hanging on the top rim of an aquarium.
  • Designed with 29 and 20 gallon tall tanks in mind. Common sizes for Angel & Discus Pairs in bare breeder setups.
  • The bottom tab maintains the angle of the slate for optimal egg laying and fertilization. If using in a tank with substrate you can bury it and use this slate without hooking in on the rim of a tank.

Fish will then Lay Eggs on the Slate

  • Place slate away from strong currents for best fertilization.
  • The 2" wide by 13.5" tall egg laying portion has been sanded to simulate the leaf of a sword plant.
  • This provides a better surface for the eggs and fry to adhere.
  • Green Acrylic Blends in nicely with planted tanks.

Safe Lightweight Alternative to Ceramic and Natural Slate

  • 100% acrylic one piece design wont change water chemistry.
  • In a glass aquarium, especially a bare bottom breeder setup, the lightweight acrylic is safer than slate or tile if the fish or fish keeper accidentally knock it over while its in use.
  • Works great for bare bottom since it does not touch the bottom of the tank.
  • You can easily remove the slate once eggs are laid for treatment in methylene blue.
  • Easy to clean and reuse.

Useful for both Parent Raising and Artificial Hatching

  • Slate can be used for artificial hatching and raising where you remove the slate and treat in methylene blue shortly after the eggs are laid.
  • With multiple slates on hand, you can replace the slate you just removed with a fresh one.
  • Slate can also be used for parent raising by simply leaving in the tank with the pair.

My Angel fish mama loves it. She laid one set of eggs on a plant leaf instead of the piece but after that batch she always lays her eggs on it. Awesome piece and super simple. Arrived very fast as well.

I misread the description. Angelfish love real slate or tile to lay on. Mine have yet to pay it any attention. They’d rather use the return pipe.

Reaches to about 3 inches off the bottom of a 40 breeder tank. Angle is nice. Maybe a bit too lightweight, but the bottom ledge let's you add some weight to stabilize it.
