I thought this might be a nice little set to add to my toolbox. What I learned is that they are okay when working with thin material, maybe up to 1/8-inch when you are just cutting a few threads. For anything thicker it was difficult to control the drill bit portion clearing the hole, without accidentally engaging the thread tapping part. Maybe if the drill bit part was longer it would be easier to use.

Worked 3 times then snapped off in the third one.It could be user error. It's hard to stop after the trap is done. I was drilling 1/4“ aluminum and you have to stop right in the sweet spot after the tap - before you touch the chuck or it's over.I'll go back to regular taps thanks.

The utility (or lack thereof) of these bits is on me for not reading the description well enough. I thought these were drill bits AND taps, not combination drill bits/taps. Since I do most of my drilling on a lathe, these aren't very useful. Combination drill/taps are really only useful for drilling and tapping through-holes on a drill press (or possibly with a hand drill), where the tap's threads can grab the material and and the tap can then pull the drill's chuck/spindle down at the right speed. There's no such capability on a lathe. That said, these are precisely and sharply-machined and feel sturdy enough for their intended use.
