This pitless adapter from Star Water Systems provides a secure connection between the drop pipe inside the well's submersible water pipe and the water line running to a service location. Using a pitless adapter below the frost line reduces the risk of water freezing and makes it easier to maintain a well without digging to gain access. Each adapter features two pieces that slide together for a tight seal.

One of the main differences between a pitless adapter and traditional wellheads is that the drop pipe extends from the side of the casing instead of the top. The pitless adapter can make this change because the pipes connect at a right angle.

The right angle also allows the water flow to extend above the ground. Extending the wellhead above the ground also enables easy access to perform maintenance.

This submersible pump pitless adapter allows easy maintenance and component removal. You can pull the assembly out by screwing a tool into the pitless adapter's threaded male component. Screw a T-bar to the threaded top of the adapter to remove the drop pipe, wire and submersible pump without compromising existing installation. After completing the repair, slide the male piece into the female component.

Having an above-ground wellhead offers an easy access point for well maintenance. Having an above-ground wellhead also serves as an excellent reference point to avoid damage to current well components during repairs.

Prevent Well Pit Deterioration

Many wells of the past had a well pit and wellhead or covering to connect the drop pipe and supply fitting. The well pit helped to prevent water supplies from freezing in regions with cooler climates and provided easy access for technicians to perform maintenance.

However, when covered with an access cover, well pits can deteriorate and become a trap for animals and small children. If the lid is too tight, it can also trap underground gases, creating further danger. Adapter held a pump and 400 feet of 1 inch 200 psi poly. Time will tell but so far I'm pleased with the construction and heavy gaskets.
