My previous house had a dedicated copper return pipe for the master bath, so there was instant hot water and no wasting of water for the shower or sink to warm up.This device doesn't require any special plumbing installs in about 30 minutes with a crescent wrench. Under the farthest sink, you install the supplied temperature sensitive flow through adapter and you're done. There is a slight quirk where the the cold water is slightly warm for a few seconds, not a big deal. After some use I decided to use the timer function (easy) where it cycles on/off every 15 minutes, and not running it at all at night. This gives you warm water in the daytime while using less energy (electric for the pump and natural gas on the water heater) as you're not heating pipes at when not in use.You can buy additional under sink adapters for about $60 so you have instant hot water in both the kitchen and bath(s).

When I was looking at all the reviews of these hot water pump systems, this Grundfos system seemed to get the best reviews on Amazon and other web pages. It's a bit more expensive than the Watts pump system (also made by Grundfos) but it's also made from better materials. There is no label on the pump itself indicating where it's made, but the box states that it's assembled in the U.S., so that's a good thing! The quality of this pump is immediately apparent when you take it out of the box. It's heavy, very solid and it just really appears well made.My sensor valve is located in my front bathroom because it's the furthest from the hot water heater. Almost instant hot water at that spigot. Before, I had to wait at least 45 seconds to get hot water in the master bath sink (located between the pump and the front bathroom sink), but now it's less than 10 seconds, and really hot water in about 15-20 seconds. The master shower used to be that you had to run the hot water for at least a minute and a half to get hot enough water for a shower, but now I have warm water after about 10 seconds and "shower hot" water in 25 seconds. A vast improvement!!My installation under the sink was relatively easy, the only difficult part was that my shutoff valves are Accor FlowTite valves with the outlet hose permanently attached at the valve end. This wasn't a no-go, but it made getting the sensor valve in a bit more difficult than it needed to be. The included connection hoses and adapters were all I needed for a good DYI installation using a set of pliers as the only needed tool. The pump installation was much more difficult; not because of the pump, but because of the location of my water heater and the copper "flex" pipe attached to it. Unfortunately, the flex pipe is soldered in on the house side and it made it very difficult to get bent correctly to make the pump fit. Trying to get it to not kink was a major challenge, using two channel lock wrenches.Several reviewers mentioned that either the pump or the under-sink valve made noise, but I find it almost impossible to hear this thing when it's running. Also, the box and the instructions say that the cord is 6' long, but although I didn't measure it, it seems to be much longer than that. I had more than enough length to reach the only nearby outlet that's on the next wall over. Some reviewers also state that the pump gets hot, but I've only noticed that it gets as hot as the water passing through it. I don't think the pump motor is over heating. The timer functions OK, but because my installation makes it so difficult to get to, I opted for a Kasa WiFi outlet and app to control it. This works really well, and I can access the pump from anywhere in my house.I would buy one of these again, but if I have any problems with it, I will update this review. With the way it's working now, I don't expect any issues.

Both the pump and the valve were easy to install (other than all the effort required to crawl under the kitchen sink so I could install the valve that is placed in the line of the sink that is furthest away from the pump. This part took about 15 minutes because all the hose connecters under the sink were the proper size.).I installed this recirculation pump on the hot H2O storage tank for our boiler system. I used Sharkbite fittings on the pump to tap into the Pex pipe coming off the hot water side. 1 ea. ½” male and female X Sharkbite plus I added a Sharkbite shutoff valve above the pump. I had to chase the parts and found them at the local hardware store. I took along a 2” section of the Pex to make sure I bought the correct size Sharkbites. They cost around $45. (SB’s aren’t cheap!) The actual installation of the pump took 30 minutes. I flushed the hot H2O line and plugged in the pump. I now have hot water, within seconds, at the kitchen sink. Although the pump has a built-in timer, I’m controlling it with a Kasa smart switch so I can switch it on & off from my iphone or ipad.

The system uses the existing hot and cold pipes to recirculate water from your water heater and avoids running water down the drain to get hot water at faucets. It is easy to install but does need AC to plug into at the water heater. I use a wifi ac switch at the water heater to turn the pump motor on 5 min before I need hot water for showering. I just say “Alexia, turn on the hot water for 10 min” ” and she does. Hot water is at the shower in 5 usually. This my second system. I retired the 2010 system and installed this one.
