I used these to grow wildflower seeds. These starter trays were perfect for it. They kept the potting mix at the right water level. Once the seeds sprouted i moved them to the ground and in a few days I noticed that the trays were starting to decompose indicating a quality product. See photos of seeds in tray days apart. They give plenty of trays for the price point. The trays are sturdy. Overall a good product and i will buy them again

As others have mentioned, they do have a smell, but that airs out quickly. I planted native seeds in them. These seeds need to be out in the cold wet weather in order to germinate. The pots are holding up to the weather but are getting soft. I have no doubt the plant roots will be able to grow through when the time comes and in the meantime, the pots are holding together despite the rain.

I had high hopes for these starter trays; they're organic, biodegradable, reduces transplant shock, great moisture retention etc etc. The first few weeks, I was ready to write a raving review. I had 100% germination of over 100 various fall crop seeds after watering the recommended amount for starters. After a week or so, these trays just FELL apart. All the edges just broke off. Yes, I had small sprouts but I had to repot these prematurely so it was out of my hands if they would actually survive the transplant. I would NEVER think to touch these after 10 days of planting but the trays were falling over and you could tell they were days away from completely falling apart. I live in a warm climate (San Diego, CA) so I could keep my seed starters in our covered California patio without any issues but I had to move them all into larger containers or put them directly into my raised beds and/or Greenstalks or I'd risk losing them all. After a few days of being moved, I noticed the majority of them did survive the premature move HOWEVER, there was a white residue around each plant. At first I thought it was frost because it did get cold the night before but how could that happen in a covered 3-walls protected area? I was stumped. Upon further inspection, it was NOT frost, it was residue coming from the trays emitting some sort of bloom within each cell. Outside of the cell, the white residue was non-existent. I ended up having to go around and disrupt each transplant AGAIN to try to remove as much as the bio-degradeable tray as possible. Once I did that, it seemed like the white residue went away after watering but I'm so upset with myself for trusting that these trays would make seed starting and transplanting easier. I lost about 20 starters and it was far from easy.To ensure that the white residue was coming from these trays, I filled a new tray with organic soil much like I did before but without the seeds. Within 8 days, every single tray fell apart and eventually had the same white residue. I had bought multiple sets of these thinking I would use these to supplement my more expensive Burpee starter trays but the other unopened set, I ended up returning with pleasure. Do not buy these. Who knows what these trays are made of. They say peat but I've never had an issue like this. They say it's organic but I'm really upset that I've possibly introduced some sort of china crud into crops that I had every intention of growing as cleanly as possible. After using these and the white residue appearing, I don't trust that these are "organic". If you care about how you grow your food, I wouldn't trust these one bit. DO NOT BUY!

came as expected - while i like that this tray isnt plastic, its flimsy. i’m on day 3 and not sure the trays will hold up with watering but fingers crossed.

Ok so these do the job of sprouting the seeds. Only issue is not even a week and they are starting to breakdown . Tearing apart easily without intention.

These pods are very small. I think even smaller than the measurements say, definitely smaller than they appear in the photos. I bought them because they were cheap just to see if I could use them to grow anything in them, but to be honest, I do not know of anything that I can grow in them. I know some people have photos of growing things in them, but by the time the plants start coming up from seed, they are very baby plants and must go into the ground immediately. The roots will fill those pods within 3 days. Also the pod walls are thick so you going to have to break them apart to help the baby plants roots spread into the ground. Otherwise it will just delay their growth. There are other larger pods our there and some of them come in trays with plastic covers for not much more. You will be able to grow plants in the larger pods for a couple weeks or more before transplanting them so I suggest to just buy the bigger pods. This is because the roots will have room to spread. If you buy this after reading my review, you will see what I am talking about. I am now trying to figure out what I can plant in these? Whatever I plant in them, I need to move fast.
