Arrived by UPS in good shape. Though mine had NO NICKS on the stone, I'd recommend the seller to put some paper padding in the product carton around the poly bag containing the shaft and hardware. The product carton itself was WELL PACKED (surrounded by bunched paper) in a suitable shipping carton. My only negative quality observation to this point: The lower "fine adjust" (lower) collar was not cleanly threaded all the way through, and thus the knurled grub screw would not secure the collar to the main vertical post at all. The "incomplete" threading was "close" but not having an appropriately sized tap to chase the threads, I managed to "get it up to snuff" by switching the upper grub screw for the lower, and applying enough turning force to the lower screw (several FIRM twisting actions by hand) to "make IT chase the threads" sufficiently to enable it to contact the base's vertical shaft. I suspect the seller would have made good by supplying a replacement collar assembly if I had asked, but it was close enough that it didn't take very long to "correct" on my own.I don't have the means to measure .00005" flatness to verify if the unit conforms to the specification, or prove out how perpendicular the vertical shaft is to the base, but nothing appears obviously amiss visually. My use of this item (gunsmithing/reloading/mechanical repair) will be for applications in which .0002" tolerance is plenty good, and .00005" is probably severe overkill. The only other observation I have is that the grub screws are apparently steel...and rather than risk scarring the vertical shaft or "ding" its plated surface, I'll probably cut a tiny disc off of a small diameter brass rod and position it in the threaded collars so that the brass presses against the shaft rather than the end of the screw when tightening it down.In summary: there are more precisely finished/ground comparator stands (intended for professional Q.C. purposes) on the market... but these are not near this unit's price range. For my purposes this unit will certainly be more than sufficient, and I felt much better served to spend the difference in price towards a higher precision (and more versatile) digital depth gauge to put on it. As it turned out... I'm quite pleased with the overall quality of this unit...especially when considering its price! If I find myself needing a second gauge stand of this type, I would not hesitate at this point to buy another unit of this model, from THIS SELLER, to fill that need.
