I don’t have a test sample to test accuracy but it does appear to work as advertised. I like the audible clicks plus the display.

GQ is a reputable company that's been around since 2010 and manufacturers a number of radiation detectors. For this reason, I trust the readings on this geiger counter more than I would from less experienced manufacturers. The device is easy to understand how to operate. The readout is a little hard to read and looks like something out of the 70s or 80s. That's a little disappointing these days since clean and clear displays are pretty cheap, but if I'm concerned about radiation levels I won't really care about a display. If you have a PC, there is downloadable software you can use to share your readings on a world map. Unfortunately, this is not available for Macs or any other device.Aside from the hardware and interface design being 30-40 years outdated, this seems to be an accurate and easy to use device that will provide you the crucial information you need. I'd choose this over a more modern looking device from a less reputable manufacturer.

This Geiger counter is the type of instrument that's nice to have, just hope you never really need it. The Geiger counter is about the size of a average cell phone and 3 times as thick, fits in jean pocket and comes with a silicone cover and a lanyard. I find the unit a little bit slow to respond and reset. After an exposure to 115 CPM of alpha radiation it took 70 seconds to return to normal background level of 19 CPM. But what do you expect, this is not a $1000 meter, just be aware of the limitations, it works just a little slow. The readings, at least at low levels, appear to be accurate. I can't verify this. For the average user ultimate accuracy is not all that important, what's important is if you find a high radiation area move to a lower radiation area this meter will supply that information.
