These DIP sockets hold ICs, transistors, and resistors securely. The components make solid connections.I think these sockets will hold components in place, and retain reliable electrical connections under prolonged vibration. There really high quality.I recommend them.

Seem well made, and fit well.

I am very happy with the quality of these sockets. The plastic is heavy duty and the pins are the good machined type. These are not the cheap feeling ones that you used to get from your local radio electronics store. The quality is on par with what you would expect from a major electronic part distributor.I was happy to see that I was even able to bend the pins slightly into the clenched configuration for soldering. I had no problems soldering these to a PCB and have removed and reinserted an IC into them multiple times without it becoming loose in the socket.Overall, I'd highly recommend these to anyone needing a good quality IC socket. Once you try these you'll never go back to the more cheaply made spring retention type of socket.

These are the ones - with the round machined pins/holes. They do, in fact, appear to be gold plated, and 20 for less than $10 is a bargain any day. I use these for two purposes: first, for microcontrollers, so that I can easily pull them and re-flash them - that way I don't need to accommodate an ISP or anything in my PCB. Second, for any DIP IC that might be damaged by heat - I can solder these down without worry, then plug the IC in. These days, I don't worry about the latter too much - I mainly use SMT chips, and I've gotten good / fast enough with my soldering that it's not much of a concern. They're still nice for MCUs, though, especially AVRs that still come in DIP footprint. And these are the "bougie" / fancy ones - gold plated, round pins - unlike the cheap ones with the steel (I assume?) square/flat pins.

Having recently stocked up on 555 timer chips and some ATtiny85 chips as well, I was actually in need of some 8 pin DIP sockets when these came available. The 2.54mm pitch sockets came in a clam shell pack and numbered exactly twenty as expected. I spent a few minutes putting timer chips into sockets and placing them in an active blinking circuit. There is not much that can go wrong with these and all of them worked as expected. I am confident that all twenty are equally reliable and would order again as needed.

I suppose DIL devices are a bit passe these days with the advent of SMD electronic components. However, I still have the occasional need to include basic op amps in some of my circuits. I’ve always been a bit cautious about directly soldering these onto boards as they are a pig to remove if required, so I always try and use a socket. As other reviewers have mentioned, they are also a great way to attach daughter boards to a circuit. These 8-pin DIL sockets from ArduEZtw are very nicely made and finished. The gold plating makes them very easy to solder onto perforated prototyping boards. They hold an 8-pin IC snugly and work well. $6.89 with a coupon for a further 20% discount is a great price for 20 of these quality sockets.

It’s always handy to have these on hand for prototyping, they are still useful for mounting carrier boards even if with SMT components. Additionally, I’ve occasionally used these as board-to-board interconnects.I got the 8-pin DIP version and they compare favorably to the professional IC sockets I’ve used in the past. They seem to be well machined. I can’t say how thick the gold plating is, it’s probably not as thick as the professional sockets and I don’t see a data sheet anywhere in sight with specifics. But these are great for most any hobby project.
