I've been using Godox triggers since the first generation of triggers. This one is definitely a great version though it does have a few things I don't like about it. There's some strange issue with TTL that I haven't figured out yet. I haven't had the problem with using another godox flash as the master, but only seem to have the problem when using this trigger. I searched reddit and found people talking about this issue. There was supposedly a firmware update but I updated to the latest firmware the the problem persisted.

I thought it would be harder to use than the X2 but this was much easier to use and the Apple Watch feel was very intuitive. I enjoy the smaller footprint and more techie look to it.

The Godox X3 Controller is a significant improvement over the XPro II. It features an onboard rechargeable battery that is chargeable via USB-C, eliminating the need for spare batteries. It recharges quickly - in only 2 hours. The battery seems to last incredibly long without need to recharge. The X3 is compact, with a high-definition OLED touchscreen and offers touch or side button controls. The responsive touchscreen makes navigation and setting adjustments easy.Overall, the Godox X3 balances portability with powerful capabilities. It comes in a semi-hard case with a cleaning cloth, USB cable, and user manual. Highly recommended!!!

I liked the x3 trigger so much that I ordered versions for my Sony, Nikon & Canon mirrorless cameras, to use alongside the Godox v1 Pro S Speedlite. They connect well and work seamlessly together, no matter which camera I'm using.I was a bit wary of the screen and relying on it to change settings. However, there is no lag swiping though the menus which are intuitive to navigate. I just wish they came set to English & not Chinese as standard, but changing language is an easy affair. The OLED screen is lovely and clear, even in bright lighting. The trigger is powered by internal battery that's charged by USB-C and it's way smaller than my Neewer triggers. These are great, effective and reliable triggers that work well with the Godox strobes. Highly recommended.

I am not a pro or an expert by any means. I currently own 3 Flashpoint Speedlights. 2 Flashpoint Zoom-Mini (one for Sony and one for Olympus) and 1 Flashpoint Zoom Li-ion (for Sony). I wanted to improve my flash photography by learning off camera flash. I needed a trigger and this new X3 trigger from Godox was very appealing with it’s simple looking and touchscreen interface. This trigger comes with a case, the manual, and cleaning cloth. My X3 language was set to Chinese and I had to change it to English. I’m not one to read the manual but I was able to play around with the trigger and start using it fairly quickly. I love that the hotshoe is metal instead of plastic. The OLED screen is fantastic as it’s bright and easy to read. The touchscreen is responsive and there’s only 3 buttons with one being a dial as well. I love the size of the trigger as it’s small and not bulky. I was able to control all 3 of my Flashpoint branded speedlights without any issues (Flashpoint is made by Godox). The only con is not really on the trigger but for Godox. TTL has always been inconsistent for me. If I use a flash on camera, TTL seems to work ok. As soon as I try off camera flash with either this trigger or a flash set as a trigger, TTL doesn’t work correctly. It will underexpose or overexpose pretty much all the time. Again I did say I’m no expert so it could just be me.Overall, I’m very happy with this trigger and I can 100% recommend it. Note: I got the X3 trigger for Sony.

In so far as my needs are concerned, the Godox X3 Controller represents a giant leap forward in technological innovation, and as a consequence, convenience and workflow pace. I say this by way of a comparison to their previous model controller, the XPro II.One of the new features of convenience on the X3 is that it carries a rechargeable lithium battery on-board; there is no longer a need to carry spare batteries. It can be charged via it’s USB-C port by any number of means in use today; by a phone charging block, computer, a car charger, power bank, etc. It can even be charged while in use. And according to Godox, the battery will last for five days at 1200 shots per day, way longer than a set of batteries lasted in the XPro II. From completely exhausted, the X3 recharges in 2 hours. And then of course, there is the X3’s diminutive size. Its high-definition OLED touch screen is about the size of that of an Apple watch, and it doesn’t weight much more either. The user has the option of using touch screen control of settings and menus or a knob and buttons on the side of the X3. Like the previous models, power of connected lighting can be adjusted individually or as a group. If you’re a TTL user, you can now use TTL mode in five groups instead of only three as previously. The settings menu of the X3 is about the same as that of the XPro II, with the exception of a “Wireless Sync” setting in the “Wireless” menu. This is a future feature that will allow lights to be connected automatically to the X3, rather than the need to do it manually through the onboard menu system. This function is not currently enabled, but is apparently going to be included in a future firmware update; an update that will need to be applied to both the controller and relevant lighting. This will be another feature of convenience when it does arrive. The OLED touch screen is bright and large enough to be read easily. It is very responsive; accessing menus is controlled with up, down and sideways swipes, and settings are confirmed with a touch. Power adjustments, individually or as a group, can be made with on-screen +/- buttons, by dragging on the screen, or mechanically, by turning the side knob in either direction. When the X3 is powered on, short pushes of the on/off button switch the X3 between the home screen, where the settings and Multi Mode are accessed, and the master control screen, where the user has access to groups and connected lights. If you’ve owned or do own a previous model Godox controller, then the menus will be familiar; in that case, you’ll find using the controller to be intuitive, and simple to get up to speed with preferred settings. What features are no longer included with the X3? One is Bluetooth; the X3 will not have access to the Godox app; in my case I never used it anyway. But for those that do, this may be a consideration. Another feature also discontinued, and one I didn’t use as well, is the obsolete supplementary AF beam. And there is no longer individual zoom control of connected speedlights. Another feature I never used. Individual and group control of modelling lights has remained. Godox has discontinued all of the features that were superfluous to my needs, and likely most others too.As I implied at the beginning the Godox X3 represents a whole new ball game in terms of convenience and portability. It is small, but with powerful capabilities. They’ve trimmed the fat by eliminating features that are rarely used, and made access to those that’ve remained faster and easier. One feature important to my work is TCM (TTL Converted to Manual) that allows me to use the X3 as a light meter. By using the TTL mode along with the finely graduated exposure adjustments the X3 makes possible, I can fine tune my exposure to get exactly the histogram I’m looking for. Then, by tapping on TCM, those settings are transferred directly to Manual Mode; the mode that I use most often when lighting with strobes. In my opinion, the X3 is an awesome upgrade from Godox’s previous two wireless light controllers. The X3 embodies all the of the best attributes of those that came before it and is, as far as I’m concerned, an upgrade worth the expense. The Godox X3 is delivered with a very nice, semi-hard zippered case, a cleaning cloth for the screen, a USB charging cable and a user manual.

Having broken two previous Godox triggers ( knocked and broke off at the base ) I needed another for an urgent job. I saw this trigger and was please to find it worked straight out of the box. The LED display was a bonus. I have been very pleased with the trigger and its protective case. Hopefully I won’t drop this one !
