About this item

  • GM CLIMBING 8mm VT Prusik Hitch Cord, 32" length, heat resistant cord of 100% Technora sheath and Nylon core, with professional sewn eyes at ends. Used to tie various friction hitches (VT, Distel, Schwabisch, Prusik) and to be incorporated in SRT, DDRT climbing systems, mechanical advantage pulley systems in tree care, arborist, rigging, hauling, caving, canyoneering, crevasse rescue. Can generate firm bites on ropes of 8~12.5 mm (5/16 to 1/2 inch).
  • HEAT RESISTANT FRICTION Hitch Cord made of 100% Technora sheath, aramid yarn produced by Teijin (other aramid yarn trade names like Twaron, Kevlar by different manufacturers) that offers high resistance to heat damage up to 923°F/500°C. Technora can withstand massive heat which even burns out general nylon/polyester sheath, particularly in fast descents. The indispensable protection for backup self-belaying or rappelling below/above the belay device, and SRT/DDRT rope access.
  • HIGH BREAKING STRENGTH! 30kN Basket MBS(Min. Breaking Strength) and 20kN End-to-end MBS, the hitch cord excels in both professional and general uses. Characterized by high resistance to abrasion, excellent fatigue tolerance, and state-of-the-art machinery stitching part sewn with Kevlar threads and well protected by a thick heat shrink sleeve, the hitch cord achieves unbeatable durability and much longer service life.
  • Easy to tie, dress and untie various hitch knots (VT, Distel, Schwabisch, asymmetrical/symmetrical Prusik). When hitches onto ropes under load, due to the unique braid, the hitch cord tends to flatten and gives a tight bite on a wide range of ropes 8~12.5 mm (5/16 to 1/2 inch).
  • One of the most versatile gears added to your rack, compact and light, easy for carrying, convenient for a wide variety of uses, from ascending ropes, rappel or abseil backup, making tandem prusik belay in rescue, adjustable anchor set-up, to general recreational sports and activities, like rigging aerial yoga silk, hanging tarps and hammocks.

Construction appears to be identical to the name brands. I've purchased lots of GM Climbing gear and have always found the quality to be equal to that of the bigger names. Every time I've looked up their certifications, they have checked out as legit. I trust their stuff with my life.

This is a great prusik cord and works extremely well. The length is accurate, the factory loops are strong and perfect size for a biner. I'll definitely be looking at other products from this company.

This works exactly the same as the better-known and pricier competitor from BW.I've used it in life-saving applications without qualms. I've tested it in practice on loads and it's performed as expected.

This new product ("GM Climbing 8mm VT Prusik Hitch Cord") appears to be a near exact copy of the popular original, the 8mm VT Prusik by Bluewater Ropes. Eye-to-eye friction hitch cords like this can be used to form a variety of friction hitches not possible with a tied or sewn loop (e.g., Sterling Hollowblock2), offering specific advantages in certain uses or situations. The uploaded image shows 2 such examples of friction hitches: Valdotain Tresse ("VT") and Asymmetric Prusik (of 3 wraps over one), wrapped around a single strand of a rope and holding my body weight by the friction. (Of particular note are that the VT is load releasable, whereas Asymmetric Prusik offers ease of movement in one direction over the other, in contrast to the standard (symmetric) Prusik friction hitch.)Another special aspect of this product worth understanding is the fact that this is not a "nylon rope" with sewn eyes. Around its nylon core is a heat resistant Technora(R) aramid sheath. Why is this important? Because this product is a friction hitch cord, and friction generates heat. Under certain dire circumstances of nylon sliding against nylon, the friction can reach high enough temperature to glaze and start melting nylon, which likely leads to a vicious cycle of further reducing the friction you need to hold onto the rope. (Nylon starts degrading at a little over 400F, whereas Technora(R) aramid fibers can withstand temperature twice as high at over 900F.) Thus, use of Technora(R) sheath offers a significant measure of protection against this life-threatening condition. My Bluewater version has the manufacturing month and year marked on the product, whereas the GM Climbing version only shows "2022". (This could become a problem in the event of a recall.) I know Bluewater Ropes is a very reputable company with a long history based in Carrollton, Georgia. I'm not sure where each is manufactured.Functionally both the Bluewater original and this GM Climbing version seem to work the same, so I am inclined to give it 5 stars.= = =Update 9/23/2022:I originally rated this product at 5 stars as above, based on the reasoning that it appeared to be an almost identical copy of the original.Upon rechecking, however, I realized that the Bluewater's original product has not only the manufacturing month and year marked (as I correctly pointed out in my earlier review above), but it also bears product lot # and "stk #" for quality control and documentation, following the best practice in the PPE climbing rope industry. In contrast, this GM Climbing version I am reviewing has none of it. (Other than "2022" - see uploaded second image). As a result, I feel compelled to reflect this deficiency in my overall product rating as well, thus reducing it now to 4 stars. (I regret my oversight in my earlier review.)
