When I touch the pads or pins to my hand I get a reading. When I put the pads to wood or insert the pins it does not read. Returning.

Have purchased this before but returned it last time as I couldn't get the calibration process to work or it was malfunctioning. This time I realized using the longer pins that I cannot put the cap back on. This kind of defeats the purpose in addition to only having it 6 months or less and the calibration does not appear to be working for either the wood or bldg materials range. Will be reaching out to warranty dept. Been tough finding a good moisture meter that lasts.

I'm a general contractor and I find myself occasionally having to test for moisture in a client's home. This is my second General Tool moisture meter. This model - the MMH800 - has more functions then my previous one including the ability to test for moisture as well as providing a temperature readout. The meter is a dual-function pin and pin-less model which allows testing without leaving holes in walls or woodwork.I had the opportunity to be on a customer site with a mold remediation tech who was taking moisture readings to determine possible wet areas that might have been contributing to a mold issue. The tech didn't tell me the model he was using other than it was a professional -series, scan-only type and that it was very accurate with a good scan depth. When I compared my readings from the MMH800 with the tech's meter I found very little differences in the readings. There is one inherent limiting factor with all pin meters and that is they only test to the depth of the pins, useful on drywall or wood but very limited on masonry and/or concrete. Concrete testing is virtually unreliable due to the penetration issue. The ability to take a scan reading alleviates some of that issue. What I like most about the MMH800 is that is reasonably accurate and affordable. Adding a moisture meter (along with a good gas sniffer) to my tool bag provides data which ultimately allows me to better serve my customers.

Seems to work fine but stopped working at cooler temperatures. Once I brought it back into a warmer place it started working again.

I bought this meter to check moisture content in prefinished hardwood flooring in my house and the subfloor. The prefinished flooring was well dried -- it must have a moisture content of about 6%, maybe less. But this meter bottoms out at 5% and gives no reading or varying readings close to that, especially in hardwood. With the plywood subfloor and other pine lumber, the meter works reliably, but not on the kiln-dried hardwood -- it is too dry. I have access to some home-milled oak and walnut that has been stored outside, and the meter worked well on that, giving readings of 12-15%. New, undried, construction lumber also produced expected readings. So, this meter does work, but be aware that it may not work well a the very dry end of its range.

I was having a problem with moisture in a couple of basement apartments so I wanted to determine the source of the moisture. This tool appears to work very well for this application.

Good product! I chose this because it can measure 3 functions (moisture, RH and temperature) and has pin and pinless options. Work with acceptable accuracy, enough to detect wet areas.Recommendation for manufacturers: The lid does not fit when using the 10 mm pins, it was designed only for 5 mm pin.I recommend this product very well. Others are worth 4-5 times more!

I use this tool for RH(relative humidity)when installing hardwood floors. I also use it to probe into hardwood and subfloors to make sure there moisture levels are good. I have had 2 of these tools and I think they work very well. They stay accurate and true. I like to replace mine every 18 months because I rely on it a great deal for my job. Good price for a good tool!!
