It works, it's battery last long time. I left it on 24/7 and the batteries lasted a week!It is slow in responsiveness to present radiation. If you are monitoring background radiation it will suffice for you just fine.If however you need something to help identify radiation spikes in areas with contamination you will want a better product. This thing will take a second to report a spike, and you will have to hold it in place of the spike for a few seconds for it to catch up with its measurement of the amount of the spike.I tested it at the Atomic museum which has radioactive elements on display

For the price this thing is really cool to put in a safe place in the event (let's hope not) that you ever need it. Radiation is invisible and deadly, and in this world it's not an impossibility. If you ever find yourself in the situation that you totally thought could never happen, you'll wish you had one of these. For the price I recommend it.

My home came with a radon exhaust fan. At the time that I purchased the house, I was told that there was no actual evidence of radon but that the home builder had included it as a standard feature because it was a trendy topic at the time. Most of the houses in the neighborhood have one, but I've always been a little curious if there was any reason to be concerned. I used this geiger counter to check the fan's exhaust, various areas of my basement, and objects around the home/yard. Thankfully, everything checked out. Levels were extremely minimal and normal. The device is fairly easy to use. You turn it on and after a short boot sequence featuring a picture of Ernest Rutherford and model/version info page, it starts checking for radiation after you press a key and you hear audible clicks. It takes 3 AA batteries, you can use normal alkaline or NiMH rechargeable batteries. I used 1.2v Eneloops and they worked fine. It has a micro-USB port that you can use to power the unit without batteries. A cable is included, but not an AC adapter. According to the manual, the input is 5V/2A but it is unclear to me whether it will actually charge rechargeable batteries (I'm guessing not - sorry, I did not have any dead batteries on hand to test).About the manual....it is very light on information. I think it would be fair to say this is a geiger counter for casual use and likely not the same quality of equipment that you might see at a museum or used by a scientist. Considering the potential buyer, I would expect the manual to explain in more detail how to interpret the results. Even though the display says "normal", it doesn't say what is considered abnormal. It took a little bit of googling to find out, the issue is compounded because there are 3 different units REM, millisieverts, and microsieverts. This device measures in microsieverts per hour.To save you some effort, here's a chart from the internet to know what is safe in microsieverts/hour:Safe: Long-term habitation (normal levels) - 0.20Safe: Medium to long-term habitation - 0.5Safe: Short-term habitation only - 1.0Elevated risk: Take safety precautions - 2.0Elevated risk: Relocate as soon as possible - 5.0Danger: Relocate now - 10.0High danger: sickness risk - 20.0High danger: heightened sickness risk - 100.0High danger: Evacuate immediately - 1000.0Severe: Radiation poisoning - 100,000.0Severe: Vomiting / 1:20 risk of cancer - 1,000,000.0Organ failure and death within hours - 10,000,000.0This would make a good gift for a first responder, someone who may get occupational exposure to radiation, a survivalist, or anyone at potential risk due to their location.

I like measurement devices, and have always wanted a Geiger counter “just for fun” - to see if there is anything in my environment that might emit any low-level radioactivity. There are such products on Amazon and other places, but have been too expensive for me to justify buying for my limited purpose. But this device was priced low enough that I thought it would be worth a try.So far, I’m very satisfied. What I don’t know if how accurate this device is, since I don’t have anything to compare it to.But what I *do* know is that it apparently is detecting background radiation that naturally exists in every environment. It emits a constant random ticking sound as it does so. Not knowing if the level of radiation being detected was of concern, I did some research and found that the readings it was producing were indicative of no more than “typical” background levels, which was reassuring.I’ve tried it in various places in my house, and found that my basement has a very slightly higher level than upstairs, presumably because it has masonry walls and is surrounded by earth. I tried it near a variety of other potential sources of radioactivity, such as smoke detectors, and found no concerns, either. The unit can run on several different sources of power, including 3 AA batteries, an internal battery, or USB power, which is useful. It also displays a real-time graph, along with instantaneous, average, and accumulated readings of radiation in Sieverts (milli and micro).Very interesting so far…. Maybe I’ll be tempted to buy a Mazur as I learn more.

The Portable Digital Dosimeter (Geiger Counter) I received, as shown by the included photo, doesn't come with a rechargeable battery but requires three double A batteries not included. It does come with a USB cord. There are no reviews of this item on the Fellat website as of this review. Reviews cited are for a different model. Upon installing batteries, the item will turn on and off. And when the switch is in the on position, a small graph appears as if readings are being taken in real-time. There is a button to turn the sound on or off. However, sound will only occur if the readings exceed normal, which it doesn't because levels are normal, aren't accurate, or don't exist. There is no method for it to be tested and nothing for comparison purposes. So with a little luck, it will sit on a shelf until battery life expires. I would return this item.
