This Gearwrench 84 tooth 3/8" drive long handle ratchet is my new favorite and go to ratchet. I'm surprising impressed with the smoothness and quality of this ratchet. For 20 dollars and some change I didn't have high expectations, but am now extremely surprised and impressed with this thing. The one I received is super smooth with very light back drag. I own several ratchets and one of them being a 3/8" drive Ko-ken that I use as a gold standard for comparison. It's no Ko-ken, but it's better than any of my other ratchets. Additionally, the finish and chrome look fantastic and the selector switch has a good amount of tension on it to keep from accidentally switching positions, but light enough to easily switch position with a swipe of the thumb. I'm going to change things up a bit here. In addition to purchasing this 3/8" ratchet, I also purchased the 1/2" drive Gearwrench long handle 84T version of the same ratchet and that one is disappointing. That one has very heavy back drag and is not smooth at all. Also, the selector switch seems to be an issue with this particular model based on previous reviews and my own experience. The one I received had a strange amount of play in it that would cause it to slide in and out some and tilt up and down. I'm not sure if the one I received was just a lemon or if the parts for the 1/2" version have looser tolerances. Either way, the 1/2" version that I received is getting returned and I've ordered a new one of the same ratchet in hopes the one I received was just a lemon. I'm apprehensive about recommending the 1/2" version, but based on my experience with the 3/8" version, I would say that one should be good to go and I would recommend it and would definitely order it again. I really don't think you can find a better 3/8" drive ratchet in this length for the price it's being offered at. I'm impressed with mine, so hopefully you'll be impressed with yours too!

I’m really impressed with these gear wrench socket wrenches. They have great engagement, low profile, and little issues with high torque situations. I got this for a future Subaru spark plug change but I’ve been enjoying this as my main socket wrench in the meantime.

I do a lot of wrenching on old cars, daily drivers, mowers, & anything else around my home because I take pride in doing the job right. It’s this level of commitment that I see in the Gearwrench ratchet(s), & yes I have many.What I like: I love the extra length in this ratchet, well I’m not 25 anymore & the length gives leverage. Since I don’t wrench daily it’s not instinctive to click a wrench for on or off but with the actual words “ON & “OFF” on the tool, it’s an easy confirmation with a glance as I put it to use. While I’m not 25, I’m also not 75 so I don’t need a padded handle. Honestly I don’t like a padded handle because they easily get dirty & just take up room in my tool box needed for more ratchets. The shape, feel & balance of this ratchet is spot on & while I have USA made Craftsman & others I grab for this one every time.What I don’t like: I guess this would be an “I prefer” because there is no true deal breakers. That said, I do prefer the quick release button for the sockets. That button makes it easy with greasy hands to since I don’t have to try to get a grip on them to pull slippery sockets, plus it’s one handed to remove vs two hands, if needed.

It does its job as well as you'll ever need it to. I can't compare it to some of the high end stuff you can buy, but it's strong and just the right size for the auto work I use it for. I never worry about having to baby it because the wrench can take it

This is my favorite ratchet I own and is great quality for the price. You get better leverage with the longer handle to break things loose. The only thing I wish is that it came as a 1/2 drive ratchet.
