For me, this product works splendidly. There is a little hitch that may cause some users frustration: I think this product is not some sort of "wireless phone extension," but it rather sends signals over your existing house wiring. If you have the base and receiver plugged into the same branch, it will work. If not, it won't. This is why I believe some outlets in my house work, while others do not. Thankfully, the outlet near where I want the receiver to be happens to be the same branch as one near a telephone jack. It also explains why they tell you not to use any sort of filter, surge suppressor, or even an extension cord for either the base or receiver. One way to be relatively certain that this product will work for you is to go down to your circuit or fuse box. If the two outlets are controlled by the same breaker/fuse, it will almost certainly work. If not, it might. The product does have an indicator light to tell you if it is connected, which is a great convenience if you don't want to analyze your home wiring.

I use for fax only. Not the greatest connection to the phone line and can't stay connected for faxes longer than a few pages. My disatisfaction can be due to my home electrical, phone and fax situation.I do recommend it though for infrequent short faxing.

Perfect for our application. I have Vonage running on our home telephone network. However, we purchased a 1960 era Stromberg Carlson 500 rotary dial phone and have it placed where there is no phone outlet. The InstaJack works perfectly, allowing the old phone to send (pulse dialing) and receive (with attendant old timey bell) calls. I have the Instajack transmitter installed in an upstairs bedroom where there was an empty phone jack and the other Instajack piece installed downstairs where the phone is located. Ain't technology grand!

Update: 1/14/2017 -This product no longer works and never worked properly and consistently. I ended up buying a 100 ft telephone cable to compensate and it works great and was much much cheaper!I came across this GE product (GE TL86587) which I purchased in January 2013. Let's just say the product is flawless. It works perfectly with my fax machine between floors. I have the base unit in my middle floor and my fax machine is in my office in my basement and I send and receive faxes without any problems what so ever! There is no interference with wireless landline. Because I have a wireless landline system in my home and there is no interference with lines! A great, great product would highly recommend if you need a wireless phone jack system or just an extra phone in a room or floor in your home! The shipping as fast as you have come to expect with amazon however the packing did lack, but that could have been my purchase of two DVD's that were in the same box as the phonejack system.Update: 10-13-2014This product has stopped working and it is not worth the money. You are better off buying a 50' long telephone cable and running to a telephone jack then wasting your time or money on this product. I got 2-3 good faxes out of this product and that is all... Do not buy!

I purchased the GE TL86597 InstaJack for my wife's home-based bookkeeping business. Her office, for whatever odd reason, was not equipped with an actual RJ-45 jack, but there was one in the kitchen.Installation was simple. Plug the receiver (with two jacks on the side) to the socket nearest your existing RJ-45 port. Connect a standard telephone wire. Then plug the satellite unit in where you need a jack, and your phone into that unit.We have Verizon FiOS VoiP service and it works fantastic with that.

I purchased this for my father to use as an added phone line for a heart monitoring device. It works great! He was worried about having to add another phone line in the house and I told him not to worry...there's an easier way. Plug it into the wall outlet, plug in the phone line, same procedure in another room and you're all set. I was a bit worried because they live in an older mobile home but it worked A-OK. I would suggest this for anyone needing another phone line in another room.

I needed a phone connection for my dial-up internet in a remote room with no jack. This gizmo works really nicely and at a fraction of the cost of a land-line phone-company extension outlet. Easy set-up, even for a dummy like me.Update: device overheated and became useless after only 3 or 4 months.
