UPDATE 2: It is now Sept. 30th and am constantly getting the " P1 " code. having to drain the front pump all the time is really starting to irk me. I know full well it is going to cost me to have someone come out to repair it let alone them having to remove it from the window to do so. I really thought I was on to something when I found the pink slime on the filter. It no longer gets that but the cleaning only lasted a few days before i had the code again. Now sometimes it stops more than once per day. NEVER will I buy from GE again. It is apparently going to be the pump that needs replaced on a 3 month old A/C.Bought his during the heatwave to replace a 7 year old same BTU A/C.My brother installed it from inside and didn't seem to struggle with it ( by himself ). I can't lift anything due to health issue, but he came over to install it for me. I helped by having everything ready for him so he didn't have to read and scramble for the parts and insulation stuff. I feel a lot safer with this unit on the grounds, that it sits below the window sill and allows an exit point in case of emergency. Also the fact, we can look out our window now with ease.I would like to point out, there is a side filter which needs to come out on the left side, so the unit can not be installed against the wall. You will need some space between it, That was exactly my concern when reading the instructions and care booklet. I have a wall right next to the window, but we were able to move the A/C over a little to the right instead of centering it in the window, and it gave me enough space to remove the filter when needed.UPDATE: I started getting a " P1 " code and unit would shut down. In the troubleshooting section of the manual, it says to clean the front side drain filter. So I did, and drained the front. I got about 16oz of water out of it. I need to note, there was some type of pinkish slime on the filter, I cannot imagine any water flowing through the filter with it being coated with this stuff. I took it to the kitchen sink and cleaned it with dish detergent and then soaked it for 5 minutes, rinsing it off afterwards. Reinstalled and am now waiting to see what happens. Not very happy as this is barely 3 months after purchase.

Installed this in about an hour. So far so good. Exit temp in the mid fifties F where it should be.Leveling the unit is easier from the outside. I had to shim the leveling knobs against the vinyl siding which is a step the instructions don’t mention. Otherwise the instructions are good.Had trouble finding the side brackets for the side foam. They were hidden in the weather stripping. Also had trouble finding the leveling knobs. They are pre-installed and not loose.Had no trouble lifting the unit myself. Make sure the leveling knobs are fully closed.Overall a good design. Whisper quiet but make sure you get the inverter model (10K BTU and above). Spend the money.

I like this AC unit overall. It's not ugly and doesn't block the window like a normal window unit does, which is a big plus. The included install kit is very nice, and comes with plenty of foam and gasket material to block the gap on the sides. It's well insulated and could stay in all year without drafts etc.Installation was easy for the most part. It's just little different than a normal unit, with a few specific needs depending on the window construction. I was actually able to do it myself but I wouldn't recommend it.It is for the most part very quiet. The only issue is when the compressor cycles slower to save power, it vibrates a lot, resonantes and make a rumbling noise. I had to experiment with cardboard and foam so that it wouldn't rattle against the window sill. The only big negative is that eco mode doesn't work. This appears to be a bug with these units but not a deal breaker for me. It will come down to temperature only once, but will never come back on when the room gets warm again. Today the room temp got 10F higher over the course of 6 hours and it still didn't cycle back on a single time, even just to sample the room air which is what should normally happen.Still, it's not a huge problem in my opinion. I'm still happy with the purchase

Really wonderful window AC, a huge improvement over the floor standing portable unit I’ve been using for years. The unit itself is extremely quiet since all the noisy bits are outside, it can make a bit of a racket shaking the window and nearby objects though. You’ll find windowsill vibrations you never knew you had. Also extremely energy efficient, I saved about $20/month in the summer vs the old portable AC unit. Compressor, interior fan, and exterior fan are also electronically variable speed, and the unit can control each one to maximize efficiency. Also has some extra efficiency boosting functions like splashing drain water over the exterior coil.Very easy to install, no mounting brackets at all since it just straddles the windowsill. It is pretty heavy though, and somewhat awkwardly sized (most of the weight is on the end that sits outside). It can be taken in and out by one person if they’re in decent shape, but two people makes it a lot easier to avoid hurting yourself.
