Just bought this on Amazon for about $325. I had a good idea of what to expect. The front 4u is a perfect fit for my Crown amplifier; there was ample depth inside. The top slanted 8u fit my Zoom Livetrack 12 with room to spare. (You have to buy Zoom's expensive tray to do this.) I mounted the power supply (Pyle 6 outlet) on the back space, leaving about 4 holes from the top to clear the mixer. There's more room to mount another 1 or 2 shallow units, or, I could fit the power supply in the top slanted 8u with the mixer. However, this is all I have right now. After 1 day, this is my main takeaway: it's good enough and these and similar units are expensive considering it's a plastic box made in China. Agree with one reviewer who noted the holes do not line up perfectly. There is a drilling problem! It looks like I drilled the holes with a hand drill. Spacing of the holes is goofy, but not unworkable. This is why I gave 4 stars and not 5. The weight and the design are good. Also agree that the latches look and feel low quality. The latches could and should be more heavy duty. I see that the regular price for this unit is now over $500 at major Canadian retailers. This is simply too much for what you get; I would not have purchased this unit for that much. I would have bought a bigger version (used) of this on ebay if the shipping to Canada wasn't so pricey. But I am happy with it, and it looks great in my jam space. Even if I buy more rack gear, I would probably put it in a separate box to keep stuff light enough to move by 1 person. Next time I gig out, the PA will be easy to move. My previous rack was an open cart with wheels, which was fine if you don't want to leave the house. This new Gator is easy to transport.

I use this case with my DJ rig. I bought it because it was light and the right amount of spaces I was looking for. And once it's set up, it is functional. But, the latches come undone all the time! Cheap, cheap, cheap, latches! I have a regular Odyssey road case for my DJ controller, and the latches are perfect and never come undone on their own.You can't stack this thing either. It has these "bubble" like covers that stick out away from the main frame of the unit, and you can't stack these things. I love the height of the case and once it's set up on my table, it's fine and easy to work with, but the bubble covers and those cheap latches make it a pain to work with. You think Gator would use a higher quality form of the latches, but you would be wrong.

Cheaply made. Front equipment rail holes do not align to attach 4 screw. Can only attach front equipment with 2 screws. Other reviews are true about this item. Got it at a good used price but would return if paid full price.

I want to preface this not-exactly-positive review by saying that I've been a fan of this particular line of Gator molded racks for a while. I have 4 others (different models than this one) and haven't had any troubles with them, which played a large part in my picking up this particular rack. Overall, the rack...well, it'll work for me. It's compact for a slant-style case and It's as light as you would expect, making it much easier to tote around than similar carpeted or flight-case-style racks. The 8-space section features a gentle slant, all the screw holes line up and I was able to mount equipment without any appreciable trouble. The top lid and back door fit well and the back door even has a hole in it. I don't think the hole will work for what I'm doing with the rack, but it's a cute idea. Being an 8/2, it's pretty compact and there's not a lot of leeway if you're trying to mount deeper equipment, keep that in mind. Measure, measure, measure...In fact, that's advice I would shout directly at Gator in this case because The 2-space front...ugh...It ain't right. First thing, when I went to put the front door on I was like "weird, this...particular door...doesn't seem to fit real well." It took me more than a minute of fighting with it to get it closed and latched which isn't at all like my other Gator molded racks. That, sadly, is not the only disappointing aspect of the 2-space section. As I found out when I tried to mount equipment: THE SCREW HOLES DON'T LINE UP WITH ONE ANOTHER IN THE 2-SPACE BOTTOM SECTION. I've attached a photo for reference. NOT cool. I mean, I guess I'm lucky that I was able to juggle some equipment and will be using just the 8-space top, but...buyer beware. If I actually needed to mount equipment in that bottom section, I would totally be returning this. As it stands, though, I can't recommend this product.

Bought one well below retail price in something like a lightning sale.Thought it would be ideal protection for a mixer.Until I realised that I'd got confused on the dimensions and it is too small by about 1 or 2 units. My stupid mistake, but I couldn't be bothered returning it because it was too good a bargain price, and I have some old synth modules & samplers that'll fit nice and tidily in it in my music room den.
