It is an awesome filling being 20 or 30 miles up in the mountains totally alone and still know that if there is an emergency can call for help.

Haven't used the actual device yet but was impressed with the extras that came with it. Every thing you need from a charging cable to wall wart to car adapter. Even a power bank to extend your outing times

To use this nearly 400 dollar unit you have to subscribe to an over $30.00 subscription that is not obviously mentioned in the description. Very misleading, really pissed me off.

I ordered this hoping it would be the answer to my needs. I solo hike most of the time. My wife worries about me as do my children. This has worked out perfectly for all of us. I send them a notification when I start my hiking for the day and also when I'm done for the day and setting up camp. They can follow me on my MapShare site and know exactly where I am. I can send text messages if needed, check the weather forecast and in a worst case scenario, I can send an SOS so Search and Rescue kno s I'm in need of assistance and can respond. This is a great product and I highly recommend you get one.

I have only used it once so far on a backpacking trip in the Smoky Mountains. There is a learning curve, but not too long. But I am not sure about it's use in the East. All trails are tree covered and it was difficult to get a signal to send check-in messages. Maybe it was the user?

Fine for hikes in a regular world but not EMP proof in a grid down, plus no satellite connection. It becomes a non functional very expensive device that Amazon says is not refundable. For me, very expensive mistake.
