This is a high quality piece of equipment. It connects with a TT25 in a few seconds, the connection is solid, and it pretty much works well in all conditions. I am using it 5 times a week, 1h to 1h30 each time, and I charge both this unit and the TT25 every other week. Not by absolute necessity, but just because the batteries are at or just below 50%.The software is showing its age. The UI could be improved, in the age of iPhones, but it works. I guess there is a tradeoff between usability and battery life. This one is prioritizing battery life. I only had one crash in 6 months.I like the physical buttons to activate the collar. Unfortunately they do not work when the screen went to sleep after a while, so you first have to wake up the screen to use these buttons. That would be the one thing to fix if I had to pick one.Great unit though. Maps are preloaded and are very usable. It’s proven software and high grade hardware.

So, I bought both the Alpha 100 and the Alpha 300i for comparison. The 300i is way more intuitive and easy to use - hands down. The bigger screen is a must for my big thumbs to navigate. It's a big price difference, but I couldn't go back to the Alpha 100 after trying the Alpha 300i. I bought this to track my dogs while hiking. It doubles as a standalone backpacking GPS too. I'm pleased.

My pup got lost in the woods and I need a collar to track her. I tried a FI collar but that didn't work. This will track her in heavy brush. It is very accurate and long battery life. The nice part is I can use this as hiking GPS as well. There is freshwater map that I am looking at getting as well. Garmin makes great stuff and this is no different.

Updated Jul 2024 - I just past the 1 year mark and the remote will no longer turn on - just up and died this afternoon. I've attempted charging it, though it was at about 60% when it died, but no joy there. And, I tried a long power button press thinking it might have a hard cycle option. I've tried Garmin support and no answer there yet either. Can't recommend purchasing one.I've had the bundle for 9 months now and overall, I love the ease of having multiple dogs on the same remote with the quick ability to view where they even when out of eyesight (at least sometimes). And, the remote is easy to switch between dogs to give different commands as needed. Both the collar the remote batteries last really well and I love the battery saving tech Garmin has built in. Both the collar and remote have held up to rain/water very well also. In some ways, very much up to the quality I've come to expect from Garmin. Now for the places this setup misses partially or completely:- Partial: the remote keeps prior path info on the screen and is difficult to clear for each day's session.- Partial: the remote takes quite some time to sync with the collar each time they are turned on and won't send commands until that is complete.- Complete: the remote won't sync with the collar to give any commands if both aren't' receiving GPS. I understand for this type of remote you'd want to let the user know they have a dog or a remote or a combo that aren't tracking GPS, but lacking the ability to send a command to a young dog right for quite some time after startup is a real gap for me.- Complete: the dog direction on the remote is wrong by up to 180 degs very, very frequently. This can easily lead to walking well off in the wrong direction trying to figure out why you can't see or hear the dog for example. I could understand if this happened once in a while, but it is a 75% problem. Meaning, it is almost never accurate enough for the purpose. In my case, I can tell most of the time that my dog is on my property, but not much else with any certainty.- Complete: after about six months the charging adapter no longer positively locks onto the collar and I have to lay the collar and charger in just the right position to get the collar to charge.Unfortunately, for the cost, I just don't see the value out of this setup. Hopefully they will tune it up and get the quality where it should be.

Unbelievable the options it has just learning how to use it. Fits on the dog very well and doesn’t seem to bother her. I bought to use on a pointer in high grass in Kansas. Worked out real y well. Screen can be seen in bright light. Kind of expensive but well worth it .

I've been working on recall with my puppy and we've recently dropped the long lines and things were going well. I had the Garmin on just to be safe - a bit of an insurance policy. Well, late one evening in a 5 mile deep swamp she chased after what must have been a deer. She went nearly about a mile deep in and I could track her the whole time. I chased after her but it was impassable. Watching the map I could see her begin to turn around and head back to me. I was also lost at this point except for the GPS. We reunited and made our way home. Maybe I would have gotten her back without the Garmin but the confidence it gave me is priceless. This setup is expensive but well worth it.
