About this item

  • AIS (Automatic Identification System) sends a distress alert on VHF frequencies, received by vessels with AIS receivers or plotters within a 5-mile radius (conditions apply).
  • RLS (Return Link Service) confirms that Search and Rescue has received the emergency distress signal, alerting the beacon owner.
  • NFC technology allows easy access to beacon data via mobile, showing battery life, tests, activation time, and detailed GNSS test info, including map and accuracy.
  • 406 MHz COSPAS-SARSAT distress signal (MEOSAR compatible) and 121.5 MHz local homing signal for enhanced emergency location and rescue.
  • Small, lightweight design with global coverage, no subscription required, strobe & infrared strobe lights, and a multifunction clip system for easy attachment.
  • Designed to integrate with common inflatable PFDs, featuring simple attachment, 5-year battery life, and 24+ hours of operational life for reliable emergency performance.

Product Description

ACR RESQLINK AIS

Search & Rescue in the palm of your hand

ResQLink AIS: Search & Rescue, Anytime, Anywhere.

The ResQLink AIS provides accurate positioning through GNSS, and 406 MHz satellite connectivity means reliable service worldwide. 121.5 MHz homing transmissions combined with AIS Man Overboard (AIS MOB) and both visible and infrared strobe aid in beacon location and speed recovery times.

ACR ResQLink AIS Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is the most technologically advanced beacon in the world as it contains both satellite and local transponders. With the introduction of Automatic Identification System (AIS) functionality, Return Link Service (RLS) technology, and Near Field Communication (NFC) capability in one 406 MHz beacon, the ResQLink AIS represents a critical advancement in the evolution of PLB technology.

ACR ResQLink AIS Locator beacon
  • RLS stands for Return Link Service which is a confirmation message sent back to the beacon to let the beacon owner know that Search and Rescue has received their emergency distress signal.

  • ResQLinkAIS (Automatic Identification System) transmits an AIS Distress Alert message on VHF frequencies when activated. This message is received by vessels with an AIS receiver or AIS-enabled plotter within a 5-mile radius (depending on conditions).

  • In the U.S., the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) handles beacon registrations. Register easily online at www.beaconregistration.noaa.gov – the fastest and recommended method.

  • Registering your EPIRB, ELT, or Personal Locator Beacon is required by law in the U.S. and most countries. It helps Search and Rescue teams identify you and access your travel details, speeding up response time in an emergency.

  • There is a battery expiration date label on every beacon.

Example of a Battery Replacement Date is 07/2010

EPIRBs and PLBs Enhance Search and Rescue Operations

Unique Distress Signal

  • 406 MHz Frequency: Both EPIRBs and PLBs transmit a distress signal on the globally recognized 406 MHz frequency, ensuring their signals are picked up by Search and Rescue Satellites (SARSAT.)
  • HEX ID (Unique ID): Each beacon sends a unique digital code, known as the HEX ID or Unique ID. This code is used to identify beacon registration information, including the owner, type of vessel (for EPIRBs), emergency contacts, and trip plans.

Satellite Communication and Ground Stations

  • Satellite Relay: Once the distress signal is detected by satellites, it is relayed to Local User Terminals (LUTs), ground stations that process the data.
  • Positioning: The LUT calculates the location of the distress beacon and transmits the decoded alert to the Mission Control Center (MCC.)

Rescue Operations

  • Investigation and Dispatch: The RCC investigates the distress alert, reaches emergency contacts, and dispatches the nearest SAR teams to the location.
  • Rapid Response: SAR teams are deployed quickly to the distress location, providing timely rescue operations and ensuring survivor safety.

I'm still using my TWO satellite beacons made by ACR (long enough to need new batteries). However, AIS really does mean "more rescue, less search" BECAUSE it sends your position to LOCAL rescuers without having to go half way around the world by satellite. Oh it's doing that too, but it's a local Sheriff or in my case FWC patrol boat that's going to actually come to me (probably 30-60 minutes FASTER).Yes, it does cost nearly twice as much as an ACR PLB satellite beacon which also fits in quite a few kayak or fisherman life jackets quite nicely. This unit is much longer, much heavier but MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE.It took me awhile to figure out how to carry it (attach a dedicated "D ring" on your shoulder strap and fabric glue (or sew) an elastic MOLE band to hold the bottom from swinging around.Eventually, someone will make a life jacket with a dedicated pouch for this unit.It is possible to "hard wire" it inside an inflatable vest. I don't like inflatable vests and prefer my "bouyancy" to be already THERE ready to float me.Make sure you REGISTER with NOAA (it's free and easy online) and be sure you use the comments box to add extra descriptive details about your boat and kayak.Even though I was a lifeguard, and SCUBA Instructor, I always wear my life jacket! I also carry a super loud whistle and emergency signal light and attached VHF (waterproof floatable) with remote mic-speaker (with MMSI emergency SOS feature).Odds are that if I ever need to activate my beacon, it will be to render assistance for something more dreadful than someone needing a tow (major fire, explosion, plane crash, or prop wound artery bleeding). Some of our fellow boaters (who will never even learn what AIS is) are prime candidates to "thin the herd."

I loaded this into my life jacket, small unit and contains both PLB and EPIRB

I contacted Lead Inspector / Repairman ML and none of her emails answered my questions. It is a regular, very expensive gadget not better than a much cheaper one.

This is a very good device. Got it before sailingvrom St. THOMAS to the Chesapeake Bay. Very easy to set up connected to the boat, and attached easily to the pfd. Can't imagine being offshore without it.

Received the ResQLink AIS PLB but it was a US registered device. I had a pay for an ACR service location to reprogram it for Canada.
