They bent the middle piece same length as outer piece so when you assemble it there is a 3/4 gap that bows up in center where ash would fall through. Good design, poor manufacturing and qc.

This fireplace ash catcher is awesome, I have a rather large fireplace so it is a tad bit smaller than my fireplace is, but it still works great, my grate fits perfectly inside of the try so just about all of the ash and burnt pieces of wood fall into the tray, the black color makes it blend in so you can barely notice it, what I really like the most about this ash catcher is how much time it saves cleaning out my fireplace, it has a built in handle on each side of the try so after everything cools off you just slide the try out and dump it, great accessory for a fireplace, definitely worth the price in my opinion.

I had high hopes for this but my hopes were completely dashed away once I tried putting it together. To fit my fireplace, it needed to be extended to it's full length, but it seems when you use the middle section to fully extend it, it doesn't fit together. There is a 3/8" gap from the end piece to the middle section. If you remove the middle section and only use the 2 outer pieces, then it fits well together, but add the middle piece and it no longer fits. Did no-one test this design before manufacturing/selling it? This turned out to be a waste and unusable, into the trash it goes.
