Works with Machinery

One of the most common uses for straight edges is on larger machinery. Large machinery usually needs to be assembled and therefore needs to be checked for straightness and flatness. Over time, machines need to also be adjusted and checked again. Thats where these handy straight edges come in real handy.

Bought this to check a used jointer I wanted to buy on FB marketplace. Now I use it to check all my big tools! Machined very nicely and comes with end caps to keep it from getting dinged up if you drop it. I would absolutely buy this again!

Well built, didn't have anything to verify straightness, but I have no reason to believe its not as stated. Returned to get a different size.

This is my go-to when adjusting and aligning my workshop tools. A solid and precise tool. I like that it's thick enough to stand on it's own. I also appreciate the hole through one end so to hang it on my tool wall and the plastic end protectors are nice also. Very happy with it

I recently began a woodworking project that requires flat, parallel surfaces for the milling and drilling procedures. I'm now in my early 80's and living on a fixed retirement, so I place a lot of importance on high value tools. I can without hesitation recommend this straightedge to others, although machinists may need something with tighter tolerances.

I purchased this to check some jointer beds, and the boards coming off of it. The stated tolerances were just fine for me, but I was a bit curious if such a reasonably priced tool would meet them. Expectations met, and exceeded.Fit and finish is very good, for those that care about them; I generally don't as long as the tool functions properly, but it was a great bonus to find no sharp edges or corners anywhere on the tool. Packaging was also good: rubber guards on the ends in a well fitting, sturdy cardboard tube inside of a box. What really got me to write this review was checking against machinist squares and 1-2-3 blocks. They all agree with each other as to what flat and 90° are, and sliding them across the reference face of this straight edge showed no repeatable gaps. Anywhere. I'm not a machinist, but I tried multiple faces of a matched set of blocks, and the stocks and blades of 2 squares, one of which is a DIN 875/0 (and every practical test I have given it suggests that accuracy to be true.) The entire length of the reference face of this straight edge looks to be dead flat as far as I can possibly tell, which are not the usual results if I really get neurotic like this.Bottom line: I am extremely satisfied with this purchase, the one I got is an absolute home run. Absolutely great bargain. Thanks for a great tool at a great price, this broke woodworker appreciates it!!!

(Edit: returned first item because it was bent, second one was better, packaged well, but for the price it should be straight that’s why most of us are making the purchase) personally still not thrilled with the item, but I wouldn’t wast your time. I was excited for the item, really needed it for my weekend off to get my jointer all set up. it shipped fast that’s why I gave the extra star. It is not usable there is a visible bow in it. It’s is nice otherwise, thick metal, clean lines but without it being straight it can’t be used for anything that a straight edge would be used for. It’s not a little off it’s a lot off. you could a straighter edge using a random 2x4 cut off

When I initially bought this, I immediately placed it against one of my walls and my glass table. Boom, gaps showed up. I was not impressed and requested a replacement.I got my replacement, did the same test, same gaps. I was not thrilled with my purchase. Then I realized, if I held both straight edges against each other, the gap would be magnified, right? Completely flat with no light leaks. Turns out my table and wall were the ones out of whack! So now I have two of these because I forgot to return one, but I'm not even mad, I use at least one every day to double check my work. As for the second one... I might be able to use them as really long winding sticks, right?
