There are a lot of different tests included, which is nice. The case looks a bit like a toy, but it's nice to keep everything together and organized.Mostly the results I've gotten have been consistent, but there have been a few times I've gotten a result out of whack from what I expected, tested a second time and gotten the same result, but gotten an expected result when I tested a third time. Other than that, I'd give this five stars.

I've been having an issue with my betta fish tanks and I have been trying to figure out what the problem was. I've even taken water samples to pet stores but was given minimal information or instructions to figure out why my bettas were dying, so i got this kit to help monitor levels with each water change and its been very helpful to keep things sustained

The test kit is consistent with other brands that I’ve used. It’s definitely not as convenient to use compared to the strips, but I find the test tube way easier to compare with the reference chart because the test strips are so small. An added advantage of the test tube way is there’s no bleeding effect from one test to another, unlike the test strip way. To be fair, if you hold the test strip horizontally, you won’t have as much of an issue either.

his freshwater master test kit is not bad. The testing solutions are accurate compared to my API test kit; however, you really really really need to shake the Nitrate bottle 2 very hard for about a minute to break up the solids in the solution, otherwise it won’t test well at all. The test tube holder insert is a handy place to put the tubes but I wish they just had flat bottoms instead. The plastic attached caps are nice. The box is a great storage option but the pipette is really tiny. I’m not entirely sure that the amount of solution that you are given is really going to give you 150 more tests than the API kit. The bottles are larger but they aren’t filled completely. Do I feel like it’s worth $5 more than the trusted API kit? Not really, the fact that the Nitrate bottle #2 solution is so chunky doesn’t instill a lot of trust in the rest of the kit.

Having been in the fish hobby for more than a decade, it’s always important to test and ensure that the water parameters are optimal for the health of my fish. This is especially crucial for me as I keep goldfish, which are gluttonous eaters and major polluters. I’ve always used an API Freshwater Master Test Kit, but recently I ran out of testing solution and had to purchase a new one. That’s when I came across the GOLD LABEL test kit in my search and decided to give it a try.The main reason I was interested is that it advertises 950 tests, compared to the 800 tests offered by the API kit. Price-wise, it’s the same as the API kit, so from a value perspective, it seemed like a better option since I frequently test my water. The kit comes in a nice plastic container, which I prefer over the API's. The kit includes the usual testing solutions—7 bottles in total, 10 plastic test tubes, a pair of gloves, and goggles, which are new additions. There is a standard color chart, a pack of test strips, a wire brush, and a tiny pipette. The bottles of test solution test the same parameters as the API—pH, nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia. However, the bottles are larger, which relates to the 950 tests it advertises. As with any test kit, the most important thing is how well and accurately it tests the water, as incorrect results are useless. I performed a quick comparison using the small amount of API solution I had left and the GOLD LABEL kit, and the results were similar. The colors (saturation) varied slightly, but when compared to the chart, the results were the same. One downside I have with the kits is that the test tubes are plastic and have round bottoms. While they are less likely to break compared to the glass ones from API, you can't stand them up on a table due to the round bottom. I do like the caps on the test tubes, though.Overall, I think this kit is comparable to the API kit. In terms of cost, there’s not much savings, but you do get more solution, allowing for extra additional tests. The results in my tests seemed similar to the API kit. I’m not a fan of the plastic test tubes, and if you already have the glass ones from API, I’d suggest keeping those. The gloves and goggles are nice to have but not necessary, and I haven’t used them. The test strips are handy for a quick diagnosis if an issue arises. The wire brush is useful for cleaning test tubes, but the tiny pipette feels mostly useless.

Only a tiny number of test strips. The rest of the items aren’t necessary and not worth the purchase. Would not buy again

I was looking for a test kit to replace the one I’m currently using. Important needs: a good carrying case, a complete kit that tests covers all the basic bases (ammonia, nitrites, nitrites and ph) and this checks all the boxes. It seems to fall in line with the readings I have been getting with my other test kit. I haven’t done a head to headtest yet. I will update when I do.The case is sturdy and seems well made. It has plastic test tubes which doesn’t thrill me but they work and besides I have a ton of the glass tubes from other tests. The color card is nicely done but it’s paper and I don’t know how well it will hold up to regular use.The tray is just a simple thin thermoformed plastic which is not bad, but it’s nothing to write home about. The safety glasses and gloves are nice but a bit of overkill in my opinion. I think the cost would have been better spent in other areas.Overall it’s a good alternative to the other name brands. The case is very nice and I don’t understand stand why all the brands don’t include a decent case like this. They need to laminate the test card, and upgrade the tray a little. I can deal with the plastic test tubes as they give a bunch of extras.Would I purchase this kit again…. As long as it holds up and I get valid tests…. Yup
