Wow. This does not work at all. It cannot repeatedly read the same measurement. For example, sliding a gauge block under it on a AA grade surface plate, I will get readings that vary by a .005-.0015. Without moving the indicator, it will read the same calibrated objects in the same positions, with different numbers. It will straight up refuse to hold zeros, and the stress of measuring .001 differences in height cause the needle to bounce. It doesn’t even make a good paperweight.

Fantastic for the money, double checked on the surface plate with gauge blocks, accurate and repeatable. Is it as silky smooth as my jeweled bearing Brown&Sharpe, of course not. But at less than half the price it makes a great stunt double for those less than idea situations.

I'm writing this review as a guy who has and enjoys a set of Fowler mikes, and generally appreciates a good value-priced tool. Having said that, however, quality is more important than saving a few bucks when it comes to some things. Like a parachute for example. You want that baby to work - and have confidence that it will.Don't buy this indicator. It may work alright for a short while, and yes it comes in a nice little set, but it will give out before long. It will either begin to work poorly, or quit working altogether (as mine did). And a test indicator is a tool that a machinist uses often, and for precision work. So save up a few more dollars and buy Brown & Sharp or Mitutoyo or something quality. You won't regret it. But if you buy this indicator, I'm afraid that's a decision you will regret...

This is a nice accurate steady readout indicator. I prefer the longer stem, but this is a good unit for the price.

Great indicator for the money but I wouldn't use for anything that holds .0003 tolerance or less. This indicator won't show any movement when my brown and sharpe 50 mil indicator shows 3 tenths.
