I’d like to think after the thousands of dog nails I’ve trimmed that I wouldn’t need a product like this, but who am I trying to kid?! If you trim dog nails - even if you just do your own dogs - do not think you won’t need something to stop bleeding when (not if!) you trim a nail too short! This brand is quite reasonably priced, and perfect to keep in your grooming bag. I purchased this one to put into my dog travel first aid kit/grooming back. The powder can be a little tricky to grab & apply to the nail, but the cotton-tipped applicator provided (only 2??) may help. I usually have paper towel or Kleenex to dab & absorb as much blood as possible, & then grab a pinch of powder (careful to not spill it or let the dog knock it!) & apply & hold in place. The important thing for those who don’t do this much is to remain calm! It isn’t as much blood as it looks like, & it cleans up. Afterward, I put my dog outside to clean up out there.

Just got it in the mail today and decided to have it ready while trimming my lovebirds' nails - I nicked one nail too deep but fortunately only bled a tiny bit. I already had some of the powder poured into the lid with a damp q-tip ready as well - It instantly clumped into a paste like substance when the damp Q-tip got some of the product and I held it onto the nail for a few seconds. Instantly stopped bleeding so it obviously works! You only need a tiny bit at a time so I think the powder will last a long while

First off The current picture shown above of the gel quick stop is not what I got or what is described so I'm not sure what's going on there, but The product i ordered and received was the septic powder which is a yellowish powder in a small bottle very similar in size and shape to the old camera film bottles with the plastic snap top. This product is a must have if you cut your pets nails. It comes as a loose powder but sometimes i think from moisture it forms little hard pieces in the bottle. But that does not reduce the effectiveness of the powder, all you have to do is break the pieces up and it's fine.Basic Directions:When I go to cut my puppys nails I sprinkle a little powder in the cap or on a paper towel for quick access and go to work. My pup has black nails so I sometimes make too short of a cut and nick the quick of the nail which makes him bleed. If this happens then Just dip your finger into the powder and apply to to the nail tip where bleeding, it will make a little clot on the end of the nail. If you severely cut the nail, then you may need to apply extra powder and/or bandage it with the nonstick coban tape. Please keep in mind the nail has a blood vessel in it and is painful for your pup if cut so be careful. If you are unsure have your groomer do the nail cutting.I looked for this product and found it in all the top name stores for around $10 which I thought was way to much so I searched Amazon and of course found the exact same product and size for around $5. No contest there. If this product does not work for you (the powder one) then you may not be doing something right.UPDATE: January 19, 2015This powder does work excellent, but with one flaw that eventually makes it useless. If you have it near any type of moisture the powder hardens and even trying to break it up with a hammer does not work. Because of this I must deduct two stars!!
