I wanted a compact and easy-to-carry dehydrator for smaller batches. This definitely works for my needs. It's very lightweight, easy to clean, easy to use, and surprisingly quiet. I believe that due to it being 400W, it took some temperature and time adjustments to dehydrate herbs. I normally dehydrate herbs on my bigger dehydrator at 95 degrees for around 12 hours or until they are dry. With this dehydrator, I first ran it for 16 hrs at the lowest setting, then had to switch my trays to place the bottom ones on the top, since the top ones were more on the dryer side, and I had to run it again for 12 hours at 125 degrees. That did the job. Next time I will just run it for 12 hrs, but at a higher temperature.

This is a fine piece of high-quality, premium... absolute budget-tier dehydrator. Right outta the box, it looks and feels cheap. Will it last? Who knows! Maybe it'll go the distance, or maybe it'll die a heroic death in a cloud of smoke next week. Only time will tell.It comes with a recipe book, which is actually shockingly well-written for something that comes with a discount appliance. It’s got jerky recipes, fruit leather, banana chips—you know, normal people food. If you’ve never dehydrated anything before, this book could at least point you in the right direction so you don’t end up making beef-flavored shoe leather. But let’s be real—I didn’t get this thing for food. Nope. I got it to dry brass. And you know what? It kills it in that department. I run my brass through a Franklin Arsenal rotary tumbler (7L capacity), fill it halfway with brass, then toss in the steel pins, soap, and water, let it tumble, rinse out the pins, and then—bam!—straight into the dehydrator. It easily holds a full load of cleaned and rinsed brass, and even with big boys like .300 Win Mag, no issues stacking multiple trays. So yeah, it’s cheap, probably not built to last, but it works. If you need a budget dehydrator for food, brass, or whatever weird science experiment you’re running in your garage, this thing gets the job done.

I've been dehydrating foods for over 25 years - I used to be an avid backpacker so used a food dehydrator to make my own backpacking meals (and usually made them for the whole group on group trips) - so my experience with this unit is compared to my old Nesco dehydrator (the cylinder style with the stackable trays). Sadly the Nesco reached the end of its lifespan after 20 years so I was hoping this unit with its compact size would be a suitable replacement. It is not.First the positives - it comes with several trays and accessories for different types of food (plastic trays, flexible mats, etc); it's compact so takes up less storage space; and has digital controls. Now the negatives - while this machine gets *hot*, that doesn't translate into reasonable drying times. When I say hot, I mean it's not safe to touch in certain areas near the motor. I don't know if it's an airflow problem or the door seal is faulty, but even though the unit generates plenty of heat, drying times are not consistent with the recommendations in the manual (or my own experience using the Nesco).I tested this with bananas to gauge temps/times - even though I don't backpack as much any more, we still like to dry bananas for a compact, on-the-go snack, so that gives me an apples to apples (or I guess bananas to bananas) comparison. After 8 hours at 140 degrees the banana chips were mostly dry but not dry enough for room temperature storage. The Nesco would have dried several bananas in that time. Finally, the digital controls - while a nice touch - are a little funky. The time/temp is on the same readout, and the display switches between the two rather quickly. And the on/off button doesn't work with a simple push - to turn it off you have to hold the button down for a while (at first I thought it didn't work because I had to hold it so long). At $90 (original retail) I cannot recommend this - it's currently at $70, and even that I think is high considering the compact size and flaws. The basic Nesco works better and costs less, so if this unit was in the $40-50 range I could justify a more favorable impression of it.

I have been dehydrating fruits veggies and tofu jerkies for years with a $40 countertop plastic fan system that while broken, mostly did the trick albeit requiring a bit of futzing and fiddling around turning portions over and with no timer or temp settings. This Food Dehydrator however is industrial grade and seriously blows my mind with how well it works, how easy it is to use, and all the extras it came with. I have made apple chips, banana chips, dehydrated blueberries and lemons.Best features+Temp and time settings. Being able to specifically have the dehydrator run at the exact temperature and with timer, I know I can turn this on and forget it and not have to fiddle with it.+No need to turn over or fiddle with the produce while dehydrating. Its actually better if you leave it alone and don't flip them, they will dehydrate and slide off the trays way easier+Well built, comes with lots of accessories including 6 trays, 2 heat protecting silicone mats, 2 silicon mini oven mitts (I love these), trays for making fruit wraps and leather, and another thing I really love, a very indepth and well written book on dehydrating with a plethora of RECIEPE ideas that are creative and allow for variation.A Couple of things to note, this does get very warm around the edges so you want to make sure it isn't on linoleum countertops directly as it may cause the glue to unstick. I keep mine on a heatproof board and then on top of the heat proof mats included in the set.Worth it. You will love it
