I ordered the sand to only go through hell. This sand was designed by Fluval to specifically use for the Betta Fluval Spec 2.6gal aquarium. Not only the color was delivered in a completely different color like advertised, It clogged my filter, no matter the amount of times i washed the sand FOR HOURS, it still kept fogging my water black. Upon opening the bad, the odor smells like strong paint. Stay away and use gravel. Shame on you Fluval

I had limestone before and realized it was clouding the water in my tank. I adjusted a few things and used this and my beta fish absolutely loves it. I also have a live plant in the tank that this was useful for

I agree with one of the reviews . I put this coffee sands in my betta tanks . One fish dies after seven days . Another fish looks sick and refuses to eat at all . There is no problem with the water at all . Only seven days kill the fishes. I rinse also but the toxic chemicals can not be fully washed. Please try not to buy this . Dangerous ! It is the painted sand . Warning . Cycled the tank if you put this sand inside . Wash many many times to clean the toxic chemical .Update after three days laterMy sick fish died in front of me in such a horror when he is gone . I almost cry two hours non-stop . It is so painful to see my fish is gone in person . I still recall the unbearable pain of being poisoned to the death . Remember you put the fish in this sand . The heavy chemicals seek into the fish organ . His skin changes colors then there is no way of rescuing him back .I should not buy this fatal poisonous sand . I do not read the reviews fully . In the future , I will read one by one for my fishes . No mistake at all .My heart falls into pieces . It is too late . My beloved fishes are gone from my life permanently.

Updated Review (April 2023):I was excited to use this substrate again, as I have it in four tanks where it's the perfect solution. But my latest purchases (March/April) had color inconsistencies, and the substrate smelled strongly of wet paint. This was true for bags purchased from Amazon and from a local pet retailer. I asked two other people what they smelled without telling them what I smelled, and they immediately said, "Paint." I contacted the manufacturer and was told to return the product to the places of purchase. Will be switching back to Seachem. Would rather spend hours rinsing flourite sand than risk a substrate that smells unsafe.Original Review (October 2022):I bought two bags to do two Fluval Spec III tanks. I rinsed the first one, and there was zero dust. Seems like any dust had stuck to the inside of the bag when I poured the contents into my rinse bucket. So with the second bag, I poured it straight into the dry tank. There was again zero dust when I filled the tank (using a plastic lid to diffuse the water so I didn't stir things up). I haven't tried this substrate with plants yet, but I'm planning to grow low maintenance species of cryptocoryne, anubias, and buce that have no trouble in my other tanks that have cichlid sand substrate. I don't anticipate any issues. That said, I am prepared to supplement with root tabs if needed.
