My toilet began to run almost constantly, the tank refilling every 3-4 minutes. I had tried installing individual components which I suspected was the cause with little luck. Instead of buying a new toilet, I decided to rebuilt my existing one since new good-quality toilets are expensive and mine was in excellent condition.I did a lot of research before buying this set and learned that quite a few new toilet manufacturers use all Fluidmaster components; this is quite a compliment.The instructions are very thorough, clear and written in easy-to-understand language (in Spanish too). That isn’t true of some other brands. Note that it is important to thoroughly clean off scale, rust, and gunk from all areas of the tank and toilet which are going to have rubber gaskets seated on them, otherwise you will have leaks or poor functioning of your new “guts”. After installation, my toilet worked perfectly, even better than a new toilet since it is an older model which uses more water than the new models.NOTE: you MUST determine either the tank capacity or the year of manufacture in order to choose the correct Fluidmaster model. This one is for older model toilets, specifically for 1.6 and larger gallons per flush toilets, and with a 2″ flush valve as mine does: it dates to 1999. The flush valve hole determines this size. The newer models use much smaller amounts of water and will not flush completely.I highly recommend replacing ALL components inside the tank, as the gaskets, rubber, plastic and vinyl parts become brittle or gummy due to the corrosive effect of the chlorine which is added to municipal water supplies. In my tank, I discovered that the plastic tube on my flush valve had become brittle and cracked and was leaking, and the flush valve gasket (between the tank and toilet) had turned to a gooey mush and was another source of leaks. ALL of the other gaskets were suspect which is why it is best to replace the whole shebang at once. Check the Fluidmaster website for particulars of each model repair kit before you choose one.BTW, Fluidmaster suggests changing the guts of your toilet every 5 years due to deterioration of the components. While I personally think most folks will get > 5 years out of the tank guts, it is smart to keep a sharp eye on it.

All the parts you could need less the basic tools needed for install. Directions easy to understand and complete. Parts seem better quality than expected. Toilet worked perfect with zero problems or adjustments required, took about an hour. Only dislike would be the cheap flush handle that is included, I didn't use it as my toilet's flush handle is on the side not the front and is a nice solid steel. Overall a really good product that does everything and the price can't be beat.

I installed this kit on 3 of my toilets, replacing an 8 y/o builder special. The directions are mostly good, but the first install took me 3 hours of swearing. I'm pretty handy and an engineer, but have no plumbing experience. The second install took about an hour and the final install took about 30 minutes.Good kit and everything works really well. Husband loves that the flow level is adjustable so now there's a good flush that doesn't leave anything behind. Quieter than the builder special systems, no leaks, and no continuous running. Does its job well.Some install tips I learned (for newbs):1. After shutting off water and disconnecting the water line, skip to taking the tank off completely (use a 13mm ratchet) and removing/installing all internal components (per directions) somewhere comfortable. I used the kitchen counter/sink and put a towel down to avoid scratches. You can reattach the tank as a final step before turning the water back on..2. There is a big white plastic screw hidden under the red gasket of the provided flush valve. I didn't realize this until the second install, previously using the old part and swearing at a pipe I thought was too short to attach properly. Had to go back and redo the 1st install. Save yourself my pain and remove the red gasket, then the screw, and put the red gasket back on.3. For those whose handle is at the top of the tank (like me), here is some simplified measuring: - Fill Valve Height: Raise it to about .5 from the top of the tank. - Mark the overflow valve to 3.5" from the top of the tank. - Minor adjustments can be made afterwards on the tank water level screw.4. Using a Dremel to cut the overflow valve made life much easier and provided a cleaner cut.5. Loop (or remove) the extra length of chain from the flapper to handle. If you have tons of extra, it can get caught in the flush valve and cause the toilet to run. I looped mine back onto the handle clip.6. All parts I needed (except one) came with the kit, so I was able to throw away all the old parts. I would suggest picking up an extra tank-to-bowl gasket for under the tank, since that did not come with. You can do it after the fact, but it's more convenient to replace during the install.Good luck!
