This looks real. In fact, I've mistaken it for a real one several times. That said, our little feathered friend woh thinks our pond is his own private sushi bar and has wiped us out several years in a row wasn't even phased by it. And this is despite us moving it around, changing heights, etc. That ay not mean much though, as I ran out of the house waving my arms and he just looked at me, and I swear he laughed. Well, turns out the only way to keep Henry from helping himself was to put up a net. So be it.

I have had this item for 20 years - originally found it at a garage sale. People who come by almost always remark about it; it is so very real looking. My 86-year old mom said she wanted one too, so I ordered her one and put it in her backyard, peaking somewhat from behind a bush. She loves it and named it Oscar.

We bought this for a friend after she lost every koi in her pond. It is easy enough for a 80-year-old to put in and move around. From a short distance it looks pretty realistic

It’s a great product, as advertised. Looks great and has help up to wind. Unfortunately, it didn’t keep the pesky herons away from my pond :(

Well constructed and beautifully made, but it ONLY attracts Heron. I bought it because I read that Heron‘s are territorial and it will keep them away, but instead it attracts them. No matter what month I put it out it attracted herons! So if you want it for decoration, then I would definitely give it five stars. And if you want to keep her away, I would give it zero stars.

I ended up getting 4 of these. After I got the first one, I realized that the blue herons simply moved to the opposite side of pond. Do they work? I think if they are moved daily, they work better. When I got lazy, the herons returned. They do look OK around the pond, though.

Life size. Scared off the green heron that has been eating my frogs and fish.

We were having a problem with a Great Blue Heron visiting our about 5,000 gallon Koi pond - A lot of Koi pond owners will say these decoys will not work, which may be the case for them. The mistake they may be making is having them in their pond during mating season. VERY IMPORTANT - DON't HAVE ONE IN YOUR POND WHEN IT IS HERON MATING SEASON. THAT IS AN INVITATION FOR A LIVE HERON TO STOP BY. Also use a "life like" heron decoy, which this one is. I waited until mating season was over - then staked this decoy heron in a fairly large flower pot filled with pea size river rock with an annual blooming "sunpatient" flowering plant embedded in the rocks planted in front on the stake the heron is on and a water-plant behind the stake. It works great. No heron as far as I know has visited our pond since doing so. This is may be worth trying. Should you decide to copy my idea be sure to wash all the soil from your plants roots without damaging the roots (don't cut the roots) before placing the roots into the tiny rocks. Fill the pot with the pea size rocks to about 4/5 full - then spread out the roots among the rocks - then gentle place rocks on top of the roots without submerging the top growth of the plant. Place the pot in your pond where it will get some sunlight if needed - mine gets sunlight from mid to late afternoon - shade in the morning and early afternoon. Folks this works - not only does it look great in your pond - but it may work for you to keep herons away as it has done for Deb & I so far. Plus an added bonus is the plant roots help to eat away nutrients out of the water to help prevent algae. Fact is, I use nothing but plants to keep my pond free of algae without using UVs or chemicals and the water is crystal clear but this is, perhaps, a story for another time. Good luck. Bill
