While the product description is exactly as described, there is still a "well this is smaller than expected" reaction when seeing the splitter for the first time. That however does not diminish it's effectiveness, the welds and construction of the wedge is great. You just have to tame your expectations with what it can do. Because it's light weight it's best to screw it down to a larger log as it tends to walk on you without being tied down. It's best to use logs that or branches that are approximate to it's size, not an issue if you keep in mind this if best for kindling and small fires, not to split a cord for your log cabin.

Got this due to we have hundreds of dried branches from privet wood that has a smooth bark and does not catch well as kindling. Difficult to split the smaller branches with a hatchet and needed to find a way to expose the inner wood to use for kindling. Privet is very hard stuff when it dries and this little wedge is a help with that. Say, branches thumb size to maybe 2 inches across have done well. If I can't actually split it all the way with this wedge, then at least I get a big enough crack in one end of the branch to get the hatchet blade safely in and finish the split.Tried a few larger pieces of firewood already split and seasoned of varying kinds...doesn't do much on those for me. But for what I got it to try on,(branches). I'm happy with the results. For splits on larger wood, I would get a bigger size of this type of wedge and hope it would handle them into kindling size.

This helps a ton, especially in the wife approval factor when she thinks you're about to cut your hand off all the time chopping wood. Easy way to split small pieces without any hassle. It seems sturdy and weld built.
