There is no such thing as a USB to FireWire adapter. They are different protocols. These adapters are nothing but glue and wires inside. You will DAMAGE your computer by using it.

I tried to connect a Firewire device to a Windows 11 computer using these adapters, but it did nothing at all. This adapter is not recognized by the computer, whether or not a Firewire device is connected. To verify, when I connect the same Firewire device to the same computer through the PCIe IEEE 1394 card, it is recognized immediately. Also, the card shows up in the device manager at startup whether anything is connected or not. I might add that the Firewire device that I was trying to connect was self-powered, so it would not need to take power from this adapter.I also tried the second adapter, but it didn't do anything either. I suppose that it was too much to hope that such a tiny and cheap adapter could actually be a go-between USB and Firewire.

This adapter does not work. Both of my computers didn't recognize it and an error message came up saying it exceeded the power of the USB port. It's going back. Don't waste your time with this!

I'm getting this error when I use this converter: "USB Device Disabled. Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices."I tried this on an iMac that has a working Firewire 400 port and working USB 2.0 ports. I confirmed that my device worked when plugged into the Firewire 400 port and that the USB 2.0 port I selected also worked. I then used the adapter to plug my device into the USB 2.0 port and got the message above.Your mileage may vary.

Bought it to connect my wife's 1st gen iPod to a USB port so I could pull a backup off of it. Didn't work. Got "power surge on USB port errors." Might work for something else but I don't have any other Firewire devices.

These worked out well. I have a couple of old external drives from a decade ago that use Firewire. Firewire was great back in the day, it didn't have the same system overhead as USB ports so it could maintain a very high transfer speed with little system impact. It does show me how much we have advanced though. Thunderbolt speeds blow it away, but this adapter allowed me to pull a bunch of data off of these old drives very easily. Very happy with these!
