I used the firewire to connect an older model Sony camcorder. Worked perfectly. I would recommend this product to all.

Great way to connect a Sony DCR-PC1 camcorder with iLink output to a FireWire 800 terminal!

I bought a used iMac that only had firewire 800 on the back. I have plenty of firewire 400 to Sony ILink/ dv cables, but needed a quick n easy solution. Plugged the cable into iLink port on my Z5U...800 end into the iMac (snug fit), and camera was recognized immediately. Money well spent!

Bought the cable to connect my camcorder to my MacBook (along with the FireWire to Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapters). Opened OBS and it detected my camera when I started the tape playback! Thanks!

This is the chord you need if you are transferring Hi-8 video from a Sony Hi-8 camcorder to a ***NEWER*** Apple computer / IOS. Trust me, we have been through many other connection attempts.

I'm trying to download MiniDV footage from a camcorder via this product we are rating and a FireWire to Thunderbolt 2 to a Thunderbolt 3/USB-c to my Dell XPS 9250 laptop running Windows11. I can't get the computer to recognize the camcorder. It may not be the FireWire patch chord, but at this point I can't say. I'll keep at it an update here if I gain some new insights.

This is my second cable - the first one was defective from Amazon. This solved my problem where my M1 MB Pro wasn't recognizing my MiniDV camcorder. Works perfectly, great quality.

This cord is a MUST if you have a 2010 MacBook Pro with 9 pin fire wire input and a Sony Digital 8 Camcorder that has ilink 4 pin firewire. Saves so much time. It transfers at highest quality from tape and MOST importantly separates into different clips and date stamps them if you use iMovie on Mac. All you do is hit the import button on iMovie and it does the rest for you. Others don't do this. I tried Evgato Video Capture and transfer at VHS quality and transfers whole tape as one big clip. And no date stamp on clips. If you have newer MacBook Pro all you need to do is buy one or two adapters depending on what year of MacBook you have. Adapters are on Amazon. I just happened to keep one of my older MacBook Pro's that is still functional. Hope this helps and saves you the time that it took me to figure this all out.

Worked well to control the camera (Sony V1u) However not able to download footage at recorded HDV 1080,. Only DV works, at a very low resolution . Using FCPX or Quicktime player recorder.
