I ordered this 1394 cable to retrieve some videos I had stored in more than 25 DV tapes. My video cam is the Sony HandyCam DCR-HC21, which is no longer compatible with WIndows 7. I installed the software directly from Sony website that allows Win7 function with the handycam via a i-Link cable that Sony recommends. Their i-Link cable costs over 65 dollars. For a cable! I decided to try this one here, and what do you know...!! I have all my videos right now in DVDs! It took 110+ DVDs to store all my videos, but hey! they are safe and we can go back and share the memories on our flat screen... priceless! This cable rocks! Don't pay so much for a i-Link cable, this here does the trick. And another plus, this cable is very long! Nice! Will store it forever in case I need it again.

i have had several firewire cables, kind of no brand names, cheap quality, so as to have cheap price ( $2 -> $5) before. some of them can connect my sony-dvr 460 to the pc via firewire port. some not work. even the ones that work, not reliable. only working on its will. so, i want to try something else, brand name like this one, belkin, and it work right away out of the box. the cable seems like good quality. i did order this same belkin firewire cable, but from Ucable seller, listed on amazon, too, and return it rigth away when receive it. the problem is that Ucable sent me the cheap quality one, black, gold plate, that is different from the listed one. when i ask why it is different, and customer service said " sorry, we are out of stock for that .... we sent you the good quality one, and will discout 50% for you...." i said no, and have to return it with mostly my shipping. so, be careful, you can ask first if they have the displayed item for sale or not. i think sometimes they put the good one to attract people.... ! anyway, i recommend this one for anyone want to transfer video from camcorder to pc via firewire. don't buy the cheap ones.... still a lots cheaper than sony-ilink cable.

Nice cable but it does not fit my late model macbook pro. It may fit the older macbooks.The description needs to be changed.

As usual, I screwed up again. I presumed that previous advice was correct, without double checking. When I asked someone (I forget whom or where) about whether I should get the 4 wire to 6 wire, 4 to 4, or 6 to 6, which I should get to connect my laptop computer to my camcorder, they assured me that the correct connection was 4 to 6, so that's what I ordered. They were wrong. On receipt of the package and testing it on my computer (an HP laptop), it required a 4 pin wire. The camera also takes a 4 pin, and thus I should have ordered the 4 to 4 pin wire (which I have already done). That said, please check and double-check the connections you will require; don't just assume. The camera is almost assuredly a 4 pin. One usually has a 6 pin connection on a computer, but that is where it is problematic. The 6 pin connector looks like the standard DIN plug, but does not fit into same; the 4 pin is decidedly different, looking like the socket that is almost square, and can be easily seen on the camera. Look before you leap. Insofar as the cable is concerned, I obviously have not had a chance to use the device. It looks quite adequate, being coated in a clear plastic wrapping which covers a quite substantial appearing twisted-pair braided wire. The plugs have an obvious strain relief at the ends of the plugs, and so it should be more than adequate. The only reason I did not give the cable 5 stars is due the inconvenience of having to purchase a new cable, and the question of what to do with the one I have now. I know, it's my fault, but I had to take it out somewhere.

I recently purchased a Canon ZR850 MiniDV camcorder, which didn't come with a firewire cable, so I bought this one. Works great, even on the first try. No messy installations, just plug and play. I have not tried it with any other product. The 6-foot cord is a good length, I think 3 feet is too short (they sell this kind too). The computer I use it with is a Compaq SR1950NX desktop and it is completely capable. Remember, you have to check if your computer needs a 4-to-6 pin connection (one end is small, one end is larger) or a 6-to-6 pin connection. Good luck!

There isn't a whole lot to say about this cable. It works wonderfully, the cable is thick (i.e. not flimsy), the connectors are well built, and I like the braided-silver-wire appearance. Best of all, most stores mark up cables to outrageous prices but this particular cable costs nearly 70% less on Amazon than it does at various national-chain electronic stores. If you need a 4-to-6 pin firewire cable, this is the one to get. (That being said, make sure you need a 4-6 pin--small one one end, large on the other--cable).
