I just wrote a review for a competing brand rated MERV 13. These are MPR 1500 and only MERV 12, but they FAR outperform the other brand. These have more pleats and do a much better job of filtering out stuff. I developed sinus issues within a few days of using the other brand. After a month, I switched back to these. Within three days I was fine again. I'm sticking with these.

I think that Filtrete makes the best filters. These filter out the tiniest particles, and they are decent air filters. I'm not sure if it's better to have higher MERV filters to get tiny particles, at the expense of making the HVAC work harder and move less air, or filters with lower MERV numbers that get most large particles but allow more air flow.

I used to buy various MPR ratings of these Filtrete filters for our 25 year+ old A/C and heater unit until I determined these MPR 1500 seemed to be the right price/MPR cleaning rating for our needs here in Arizona. I had been worried that a higher MPR might put an undue stress on our A/C fan, so I settled on these 1500 MPR ones and didn't really notice a difference in how dirty the filter ended up after using it for 400 hours (about 3 to 4 months of operation). In the past I've used cheaper brands, as well as reusable ones, and I feel very satisfied that these are cleaning the air in our home at an optimal level for preventing dust and reducing allergens. They are very well built and could easily go more than 400 or 500 hours of use, but I think swapping them out every 400 hours, as I do, is the right thing to do for our health. They also cost the same as buying them at a big box store, and you can always be assured of buying the same exact ones by reordering when needed through Amazon.
