Radon: Why You Need To Care

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas produced from the decay of naturally occurring uranium in the soil. Modern buildings create a negative pressure due to tight construction, temperature differences and the operation of appliances and HVAC systems. This negative pressure draws radon into homes and structures through cracks, gaps, and porosity in the foundation/slab, high concentrations can then build up inside the home and get circulated by HVAC systems.

Radon is mitigated by creating an active soil depressurization system. The first step in mitigation is to seal off the cracks and gaps of your home's foundation or crawlspace. PVC/ABS system piping is then routed into a cleared out suction pit beneath the slab exhausting above the roofline. A radon mitigation fan is connected to this system piping, creating a pressure field beneath the now-sealed slab disallowing radon infiltration. An effective radon mitigation system can also help reduce humidity, moisture, mold, and indoor allergens.

The Risks of Radon Exposure:

  • Radon is the cause of approx. 21,000 lung cancer deaths in the US a year.
  • Radon has been linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s.
  • Exposure to 4.0 pCi/L (action level) is the equivalent of 200 chest x-rays a year or 10 cigarettes a day.
  • 1/15 homes in the United States have elevated radon levels.

Installed fine with no issues. It's plenty quiet and can barely be heard the next room over from behind the garage. No issues after a year or so.

44 db at a distance of 5 feet. I have it installed in our basement and it is at least 10 db quieter than either my furnace or my direct vent water heater. The numbers from the Airthings Corentium Home really tell the story! See pics. The build quality seems very good. I don’t know about longevity as only time will tell.New install but instructions are very clear. This draws air from an existing sump well with a weeping tile system around the perimeter of the house. The house is 1374 square feet with a fully finished basement.Believe the reviews!!

I bought a slightly higher wattage, 90W vs. 65W, so it had almost the exact dimensions of my previous unit. Replacement was very easy and did not require any additional accessories. Instructions for wiring were very clear, it worked right away, and the noise was reasonable. I took a star off for not knowing durability, which is the most important quality of this type of product.

Size was easy fit to replace my old fan that got noisy. Wiring connections provided made hook up quick and easy. Mine is mounted outside, so sound is not a big factor, but this fan runs pretty quietly and I think would be OK in the basement too..

We recently installed radon mitigation system from our sump pit using the Festa Radon AMG Maverick Radon Fan. Within 24 hours are radon on levels dropped 200 Bq/m3. The radon level has been below 30 Bq/m3 for 24 hours now. We are so pleased how effective this fan is!We followed the instructions choosing which model fan was appropriate for our home construction and size. When standing beside the fan, it is slightly noticeable, but as soon as the door to our utility room is closed, it is so quiet that you’re not even aware it is running and potentially saving your life. The installation of the fan itself was quite easy. We would definitely recommend this product.

My old fan was starting to make an annoying vibration sound, as if someone was always outside with an electric weedwacker. The install was a pain, but that is not the fans fault, the way they installed the original pipes gave no flex. The actual fan was super easy to wire up with the preset connectors. Great replacement fan, dont wait until the unit stops working.

With a little bit of work I was able to reduce my Radon from a high of 718 P/m3 to an average closer to 50. I followed many do it yourself videos and I installed this fan in my attic with 4 inch piping. Combined with Airthings I am able to keep a close eye on the values.
